HEALTH OCCUPATIONS
Phlebotomy
Technician
Phlebotomists are a vital part of the health care
team and are employed at a variety of health care
settings such as laboratories, physicians’ offices
and hospitals.

This 148 hour course, approved by the American
Society of Clinical Pathologists, prepares students
for a career in blood drawing or provides an
additional proficiency for current health care
professionals.
Phlebotomy is offered as either a daytime or
evening class and includes 48 hours of theory
and 100 hours of clinical experience at a health
care facility in either Oswego County or Onondaga
County.
Upon completion of this course, students will
receive a certificate of completion from BOCES
and be eligible to take the certification exam from
the ASCP.
The cut-off date for applications is two weeks
prior to the start of class. Late applications may
be accepted past the cut-off date if they meet
specific requirements and seats are available.
Late applicants may be assessed late fees.

Application Fee: $50 non-refundable application

Prerequisites: Completed application, passing
score on TABE pre-entrance exam, HS/GED ®
transcripts and/or college transcripts, and
two professional references.
Tuition: $975 (includes books and supplies)
Evening Schedule: Mon. & Wed., 5:30pm to
9:30pm; Clinical hours vary

Additional Requirements: Up-to-date physical
and immunizations; students provide their
own uniform and shoes.
Infection
Control
Oswego BOCES is certified to provide the
required coursework for Infection Control
Standards, per NYS Education Department and
the Department of Health.
This program will assist licensed, registered and/
or certified health professionals to understand
principles of blood-borne pathogen transmission
in the workplace, infection control and principles
and professional standards of practice. Includes
informational packet.
Upon completion of this course, students will
receive a certificate of completion.
