Phlebotomy<br />
Technician<br />
Phlebotomists are a vital part of the health care<br />
team and are employed at a variety of health care<br />
settings such as laboratories, physicians’ offices<br />
and hospitals.<br />

This 148 hour course, approved by the American<br />
Society of Clinical Pathologists, prepares students<br />
for a career in blood drawing or provides an<br />
additional proficiency for current health care<br />
professionals.<br />
Phlebotomy is offered as either a daytime or<br />
evening class and includes 48 hours of theory<br />
and 100 hours of clinical experience at a health<br />
care facility in either <strong>Oswego</strong> <strong>County</strong> or Onondaga<br />
<strong>County</strong>.<br />
Upon completion of this course, students will<br />
receive a certificate of completion from <strong>BOCES</strong><br />
and be eligible to take the certification exam from<br />
the ASCP.<br />
The cut-off date for applications is two weeks<br />
prior to the start of class. Late applications may<br />
be accepted past the cut-off date if they meet<br />
specific requirements and seats are available.<br />
Late applicants may be assessed late fees.<br />

Prerequisites: Completed application, passing<br />
score on TABE pre-entrance exam, HS/GED ®<br />
transcripts and/or college transcripts, and<br />
two professional references.<br />
Tuition: $975 (includes books and supplies)<br />
Evening Schedule: Mon. & Wed., 5:30pm to<br />
9:30pm; Clinical hours vary<br />

Additional Requirements: Up-to-date physical<br />
and immunizations; students provide their<br />
own uniform and shoes.<br />
Infection<br />
Control<br />
<strong>Oswego</strong> <strong>BOCES</strong> is certified to provide the<br />
required coursework for Infection Control<br />
Standards, per NYS <strong>Education</strong> <strong>Department</strong> and<br />
the <strong>Department</strong> of Health.<br />
This program will assist licensed, registered and/<br />
or certified health professionals to understand<br />
principles of blood-borne pathogen transmission<br />
in the workplace, infection control and principles<br />
and professional standards of practice. Includes<br />
informational packet.<br />
Upon completion of this course, students will<br />
receive a certificate of completion.<br />
