Electrical 

& Instrumentation Capability 

In addition to the resource sector 

we provide electrical construction 

services to the commercial, civil, 

food & beverage and communications 

sectors throughout Australia. We also 

operate a switchboard manufacturing 

business out of our Lytton facility 

in Queensland. 

Our electrical business specialises 

in undertaking construction works in 

hazardous environments and in the 

installation of high voltage systems. 


Heavy Lift Capability 

John Holland’s SMP business has 

a specialist in-house capability to 

engineer and execute heavy plant 

and equipment lifts. This particular 

skill combined with our extensive 

fleet of heavy lift plant and equipment 

allows us to offer clients economical 

and safe construction solutions. 

John Holland has an extensive array 

of engineering plant and equipment 

located at sites throughout Australia 

as well as facilities to acquire plant to 

support our construction activities. 

In particular we operate a large fleet 

of well maintained cranes that ensure 

our competitiveness in structural and 

mechanical works for heavy industry. 

Self-Perform Capability 

John Holland SMP specialises 

in delivering projects using its own 

workforce. This approach provides 

our clients with the best possible risk 

profile and the benefit of reduced 

overheads. We are experienced in 

managing large direct labour teams 

and are skilled at human resource 

and industrial relations management, 

including the management of

Fabrication 

& Protective Coatings 

Our Richlands fabrication facility 

located near Brisbane provides our 

valued clients with a unique “One 

Stop Shop” for the fabrication of 

steel items normally associated 

with engineering construction. As 

one of Australia’s largest fabrication 

and corrosion protection facilities, 

this workshop is fully equipped to 

undertake the fabrication and coating 

for a diverse range of steel structures, 

from architectural elements to heavy 

fabricated sections. 

In addition to our Richlands facility, 

we also have fabrication facilities 

located at Rockhampton in 

Queensland, Traralgon in Victoria and 

at Bunbury in Western Australia. 

Modularisation 

John Holland SMP has extensive 

experience in the pre-assembly of 

plant and equipment into modules 

away from the project site. We are 

also skilled at transporting completed 

modules by either land or sea to their 

final location. Our heavy lift capability 

facilitates this process.

The Passport to Safety 

Excellence Program 

The Passport to Safety Excellence 

Program is a John Holland national 

training initiative. It is a key element of 

the John Holland occupational health, 

safety and workers’ compensation 

improvement strategy and will assist 

us in achieving our vision of No Harm. 

The Passport Program comprises a 

total of 16 training modules which, 

upon completion, will give successful 

candidates a Certificate IV in Safety 

Leadership – Construction. In what 

is a credit to the dedication and 

commitment of the Safety team, the 

Program has been endorsed by both 

the Federal Safety Commissioner 

and the National Safety and 

Compensation Council. We expect 

that this initiative will eventually 

become an industry-wide platform, 

and we will continue to lead the 

industry in achieving world-class 

safety standards. 

Almost 1,600 people across the 

company, including our Chairman, 

Janet Holmes à Court, have attended 

the Leadership Module of the course. 

This program is one way in which we, 

as a company, are changing the face 

of occupational health and safety for 

the betterment of the industry.
