up so that the revision has time to sink in. The questions and answers<br />

should be still fresh in your mind by 1st week <strong>of</strong> term, when your college<br />

tutors are likely to review your work.<br />

So remember to bring your solutions to <strong>Oxford</strong> with you.<br />

Reading<br />

The ability to learn new material yourself is an important skill which you<br />

must acquire. But, like all books, mathematics for engineering texts are<br />

personal things. Some like the bald equations, others like to be given<br />

plenty <strong>of</strong> physical insight. However, two texts that are commonly<br />

recommended by lecturers are:<br />

Title: Mathematical Methods for Science Students<br />

Edition: 2 nd ed.<br />

ISBN/ISSN: 0582444160 (paperback)<br />

Stephenson's book is a good introductory text for your first year.<br />

Kreyszig's book is more comprehensive for first year but would be also
