SHAPE : Pear-shape; sucking disc; "Wry little face."<br />

DORSAL SURFACE: Convex.<br />

VENTRAL SURFACE: Concave.<br />

NUCLEUS: Two.<br />

CYTOPLASM:<br />

FLAGELLA: 8.<br />

ANTERIOR: 4.<br />

VENTRAL: 2.<br />

CAUDAL: 2.<br />

KINETOSOMES: Give rise to the flagella; located between the anterior portion<br />

of the nuclei.<br />

AXONEMES: Interior portion of the flagella; transverse the cytoplasm before<br />

emerging; the two caudal axonemes divide the body longitudinally into halves.<br />

MEDIUM BODIES: Large curved, dark-stained.<br />

FUNCTION: Unknown; support or energy production.<br />

PREVIOUS IDEOLOGY: Parabasal bodies, kinetoplasts, or chromatoid<br />

bodies.<br />

AXOSTYLES: There are none; what was believed to be axostyles are<br />

structures formed by the axonemes of the ventral flagella and the associated<br />

groups of microtubules.<br />

MOBILITY: Like a falling leaf.<br />
