F. Rules for Competitions (Formations)<br />

Rule F.1 (Number of Couples)<br />

1.1 In all Formation competitions teams shall consist of six, seven or eight couples. No person<br />

may dance in more than one team in the same event.<br />

1.2 In all Formation competitions at least 12 competitors per team must hold a valid and<br />

subsisting passport of the represented <strong>WDSF</strong> Member country at the time s/he is appointed<br />

to represent that Member and at the time of the relevant Championship or Cup.<br />

1.3 At any stage in a competition 4 team Members may be replaced by up to 4 reserves.<br />

Rule F.2 (Music, Dances)<br />

2.1 Teams in the Standard category must base their routines on the Waltz, Tango, Viennese<br />

Waltz, Slow Foxtrot and Quickstep with an optimal maximum of 16 bars of music in any<br />

dance including Latin American.<br />

2.2 Teams in the Latin American category must base their routines on the Samba, Cha-Cha-<br />

Cha, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive and any other Latin American rhythm with an optional<br />

maximum of 16 bars of music in any dance, including Standard dances.<br />

2.3 Solo performances in the Standard category shall be restricted to 8 bars in any one dance<br />

used with a maximum of 24 bars of music over the whole presentation, except for the Latin<br />

American dances in which solo performance is normally a part.<br />

2.4 No formation team shall dance a routine exceeding 6 minutes including entry and exit. Of<br />

these 6 minutes, no more than 4½ minutes shall be judged and must be clearly identified in<br />

recognisable fashion at the beginning and end.<br />

2.5 Tapes or other audio systems shall be used.<br />

2.6 Teams not complying with these requirements may be disqualified by the Chairman.<br />

Rule F.3 (Rehearsals)<br />

3.1 A Chairman must be appointed. The Chairman must attend rehearsals and warn any team<br />

breaching the Rules. If the Rules are breached during the competition, the Chairman may<br />

disqualify the team(s).<br />

3.2 Adequate arrangements must be made for non-public team rehearsals before the<br />

competition.<br />

3.3 An equal amount of time at least 15 minutes long must be allocated to each team in the hall<br />

with appropriate music.<br />

In Formation competitions with different dance directions within the same event an equal<br />

amount of time at least 20 minutes long must be allocated to each team in the hall with<br />

appropriate music.<br />
