MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF OF POLICE On behalf of all the men and women of York Regional Police, I am pleased to present our 2009 Annual Report, highlighting the many operational successes we achieved through the hard work of all our members. We have also provided short profiles of bureaus and units whose important work supports frontline policing every day. York Region has the proud distinction of not only being one of Canada’s most diverse communities, but also one of its safest. I am pleased to report that in 2009, the overall crime rate decreased by 6.8 per cent and our region experienced decreases in the rate of crime in virtually every major crime category. We remain grateful for the strong partnerships we share with our residents, businesses and community organizations. We also recognize that our achievements in crime prevention and law enforcement would not be possible without the continued support of regional and local councils and the Regional Municipality of York Police Services Board. You have our thanks and the continued commitment of every member to bring life to our motto of Deeds Speak. FRENCH Thank you from Afghanistan. Recently, Canadian soldiers received a package from Canada containing T-shirts from various emergency services in your area. I was a proud recipient of a T-shirt from York Regional Police.
