Membership Information<br />

On behalf <strong>of</strong> the President <strong>of</strong> The <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Arizona</strong>, the Staff Advisory Council is seeking<br />

nominations for new members.<br />

Nominees must be non-probationary classified staff<br />

employees who are energetic, conscientious, and<br />

concerned with staff issues. Each must be willing to<br />

commit a minimum <strong>of</strong> 8 h<strong>our</strong>s a month to SAC<br />

activities.<br />

The SAC is composed <strong>of</strong> dedicated members who<br />

advise the <strong>University</strong> Administration regarding<br />

staff concerns. Since many <strong>of</strong> these issues are<br />

related to personnel policies (eg. Benefits, pay,<br />

employment practices), SAC interacts closely with<br />

the Human Res<strong>our</strong>ces department, as well as other<br />

departments on campus. Council members also<br />

serve on various <strong>University</strong> Committees.<br />

Mission Statement<br />

The <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Arizona</strong> Staff<br />

Advisory Council represents<br />

and promotes staff concerns<br />

within the <strong>University</strong><br />

community and statewide;<br />

serves as a res<strong>our</strong>ce for inquires<br />

and requests; works to improve<br />

communications between the<br />

classified staff and the<br />

<strong>University</strong> community; advises<br />

and makes recommendations on<br />

existing and proposed<br />

<strong>University</strong> policies and<br />

procedures; provides forums for<br />

discussing and defining the role<br />

<strong>of</strong> classified staff in the<br />

<strong>University</strong>; and, ensures<br />

inclusion <strong>of</strong> classified staff on<br />

<strong>University</strong> committees.<br />

Goals<br />

Evaluate & recommend changes to existing<br />

and proposed <strong>University</strong> policies and<br />

procedures affecting classified staff.<br />

Keep salary issues before the <strong>University</strong><br />

Administration, <strong>Arizona</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Regents,<br />

the State legislature, and the Governor.<br />

Monitor benefits and retirement issues and<br />

their impact on classified staff.<br />

Assist Employee Services/Human<br />

Res<strong>our</strong>ces to maintain an effective,<br />

efficient and equitable personnel<br />

management system.<br />

Closely monitor <strong>University</strong> reorganization<br />

plans, The <strong>University</strong> Strategic Plan and<br />

their impact on staff.<br />

Promote the participation <strong>of</strong> classified staff<br />

in <strong>University</strong> decision-making by<br />

nominating staff members to serve on<br />

committees and task forces.<br />

Strengthen communication among the<br />

classified staff, appointed pr<strong>of</strong>essionals,<br />

faculty, administrative and student<br />

communities.<br />

Strengthen communication between the<br />

staff councils <strong>of</strong> the UA, ASU, NAU;<br />

through participation in Tri-U Council.<br />

SAC’s Standing Committees<br />

Tri-U Board - participates with classified staff<br />

councils at UA, ASU and NAU campuses to<br />

strengthen communication.<br />

Activities - hosts various events at which Staff<br />

can network with other staff.<br />

Communications - responsible for the<br />

coordination <strong>of</strong> publication efforts utilizing<br />

website, newsletters, <strong>brochure</strong>s, social media,<br />

and presentations.<br />

Conference - responsible for the coordination<br />

<strong>of</strong> the annual staff pr<strong>of</strong>essional development<br />

conference.<br />

Emily Krauz Staff Endowment Fund -<br />

organizes the distribution <strong>of</strong> scholarship<br />

awards to qualified and selected staff.<br />

Employee Recognition - coordinates events <strong>of</strong><br />

Employee Recognition Week, including the<br />

Awards for Excellence and On Our Own Time<br />

Art Exhibit.<br />

Human Res<strong>our</strong>ces - works with members <strong>of</strong><br />

The <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Arizona</strong> Retirees<br />

Association, directed toward researching and<br />

proposing, programs, services, and special<br />

activities dealing with employee and<br />

retirement issues.<br />

Legislative - reviews current legislative<br />

proposals to keep the Council apprised <strong>of</strong><br />

issues pertinent to classified staff and makes<br />

recommendations for action.<br />

Membership/Liaisons - solicits appointments<br />

<strong>of</strong> new members.
