What would you do if you saw this
Sean Honking Kelly cont.
I looked into her eyes, with no pupil response, and I could feel no pulse. With this I managed to get her up
straight managed to do a head tilt-jaw thrust to open the airway, and gave her a few thrusts on the chest
and to my relief she came back.
But she was not out of the woods yet, we were still waiting for crews to arrive, the jailer was a great help
assisting, remove keys from the ignition and applying the hand break, I next applied her hair to her head
wound to stop some of the bleeding, I carried out a few patient observations, pulse, resps, etc., And was
logging them all down on my glove to give a patent handover.
The next moment literally in sync all 3 services arrived, I then gave the paramedics a quick handover, I then
asked for a neck brace from the trauma bag and applied this to the causality, the fire service started setting
up hydraulic cutting equipment, as the plan was a roof removal.
I got asked if I was happy to stay in the car and support the patients head whilst this happened. As I knew
the fire crews on scene they were happy to let me stay in the role, I stayed in the car with a paramedic
whilst the roof was cut off.
And the causality started to show real improvements during the extraction. After the roof was cut off a KED
and a spinal board where applied and she was removed from the car into a stretcher. I then gave another
handover to paramedics and the police, I then spoke to the fire service who all thanked me for my efforts
along with the other services that where there, after the ambulance had left I went and found Roye and
continued on the journey home, with almost a sense of pride that I had helped someone whilst off duty.
