Depending <strong>on</strong> the sampling strategy applied, the nati<strong>on</strong>al programmes are classified as either<br />

In the surveillance programmes, samples are taken without any particular suspici<strong>on</strong> towards a<br />
specific producer and/or c<strong>on</strong>signment. The EU-coordinated c<strong>on</strong>trol programme is an example of a<br />
surveillance programme. However, the nati<strong>on</strong>al surveillance programmes are in most cases more<br />
targeted to achieve the objectives defined in the nati<strong>on</strong>al c<strong>on</strong>trol programmes and are therefore<br />
already focussed <strong>on</strong> specific pre-selected food products and countries, but the selecti<strong>on</strong> of the<br />
c<strong>on</strong>signment/lot is randomised.<br />
In <str<strong>on</strong>g>2009</str<strong>on</strong>g>, the majority of the samples taken are classified as surveillance samples (66,550 samples,<br />
97.9% of the total number of samples). Table 2-6 splits them up into the different product groups.<br />
