Principal’s Report
Wow, what a week! Thank you so much for supporting our students and school with all the events we had this week and the extreme weather conditions with
which we held them under.
Parent interviews appear to have been valuable for staff, students and parents. Please do not forget that you have a right to request to meet with your child’s
teacher at any time throughout the year, you don’t need to wait for formal interviews. Call and make a mutually convenient time at any time throughout the
year.
The discos were a huge success, with students going home a little sweaty and with large smiles on their faces. These events were a P & C fundraiser and jointly
hosted by the staff and P&C. I would like to thank all of our volunteers; it was a pleasure to see everyone working together for the students.
We have had excellent reports regarding our students’ behaviour. The Life Education teacher indicated she enjoyed her time here and that our students were a
delight. Our choir went to Balarang, thanks to such patient and supportive teachers and parents. They too were well-behaved and participated with enthusiasm
and pride.
Unfortunately, the soccer knockout and athletics carnival were cancelled. Mr Lendrum is carefully selecting a district team for next term and whilst the task is
difficult and not ideal, we had no other choice. We will organise a sports fun day in term 3 to replace the athletics carnival and will use the bus fare collected to
transport us to the grounds for this modified event. New notes will be distributed next term and parents will be invited to join us.
I would like to remind parents and carers that animals are not permitted on school grounds. Whilst you might like to take the dog for a walk and pick up the
children, animals must stay outside of the school gates. As you can appreciate, for the safety of students this is a department and school requirement.
We have reviewed school assemblies and asked for feedback and suggestions. As announced last Monday morning, we will hold one assembly a week for all
students in Kindergarten to Year 6. At this assembly our student leaders will conduct the event where the special awards and merit awards will be presented.
Please join us commencing Thursday 25 July at 2.15pm for our new assembly format. We will trial this during semester 2 and fine-tune it for 2014.
Next term Mrs Sandra Puglisi will be taking leave, Mrs Sonia Noakes will teach 2PN in a fulltime capacity. We wish Mrs Puglisi well as she spends time with her
new grandchild and then has an operation.
Well, I have been principal of this fine school for one term. Upon reflection I can say I have enjoyed every day. I am grateful for the support and encouragement I
have received from staff, students, parents and the community. I am very proud to be the principal of Oak Flats Public School and look forward to continuing to
build upon the strong partnerships that exist.
Best wishes , Karen Hodge

SOUTHERN STARS REHEARSAL ONE On Tuesday 25th June the Southern Stars Dancers went to North Wollongong Indoor Cricket Centre for their
children from other schools. A special thank you to Miss Atkins for taking and supervising the children. Southern Stars Dancers represented OFPS with pride!
Well done! Alice Wigny.
NAIDOC WEEK CELEBRATIONS AT OFPS We will celebrate NAIDOC week at OFPS when we return in Term 3, week 1. The
SOUTHERN ILLAWARRA MUSIC FESTIVAL PRELIMINARY REHEARSAL Congratulations to all the students who participated in the
Preliminary Choir Rehearsal at Balarang Public School yesterday. They were great representatives of our school and it was a very successful rehearsal all
round, given the weather conditions. A huge thank you to all those parents and families who cooperated to assist in getting the students to and from Balarang –
we greatly appreciated your assistance at such short notice. Just another reminder that our performance date for the Music Festival is Wednesday, 14th
August, at the Shellharbour Club, so please mark that date in your diaries! Tickets will be $15.00 (on sale Week 1 Term 3) available at the Main Office – once
