This year's Commonwealth theme, 'Opportunity through strive together to create a
especially those who are vulnerable.
We are all born with the desire to learn, to explore, to try I am reminded of the adage, 'nothing ventured, nothing
new things. And each of us can think of occasions when gained'. As we reflect on how the Commonwealth theme
we have been inspired to do something more efficiently, applies to us individually, let us think about what can be
still takes courage to launch into the unknown. Ambition let us bear in mind the great opportunity that is offered by
COMMONWEALTH YOUTH CONFERENCE 2013
Commonwealth Youth Conference
Organized by CMS Gomti Nagar Campus I
The 14th Commonwealth Youth Conference and
Poster Making Competition was organised with
great pomp and show by CMS Gomti Nagar
Campus I on March 13 at the school
auditorium. Chief Guest, Mrs Sunita Aron,
Senior Resident Editor, Hindustan Times, lit the
lamp of learning to ceremoniously inaugurate
the function. Addressing the gathering on this
occasion, Mrs Aron urged the youth to
channelize their energy in reforming the world.
She advised the students to be committed to
themselves first, then to their friends, parents,
neighbours and society. CMS has been
organizing Commonwealth Day for past 13
years with the aim of maintaining peace, unity,
cooperation and friendship in the world. The
celebrations were held in tune with the
Commonwealth Day theme of 'Opportunity
Through Enterprise'. The message of her
majesty Queen Elizabeth of England was read
out before the participants. Her message stirred
feelings of unity among the member nations of
the commonwealth. Students of class XI held a
group discussion during which they pondered
over the problems facing the people in the
commonwealth nations. They realized that the
problems were common and therefore a
common solution should be found out which
would not only mitigate their difficulties but
would also consolidate the unity in the
commonwealth.
In the poster making on the theme of the
commonwealth Arpit Pathak and Ramish Abbas
of Gomti Nagar campus won the first and the
second prizes respectively in junior category
while Milind Bhatnagar and Nimisha
Priyedarshi of the same campus won the first
and the second prizes respectively in senior
category.
Renowned educationist and Founder of CMS,
Eminent Speakers
Dr Jagdish Gandhi said on this occasion that
Commonwealth provides us an opportunity to
associate with the global family. He said that
the Commonwealth of Nations is the largest
world organization after the United Nations
Organization. It encourages settlement of
disputes between nations through mutual
discussions and creates an environment of
mutual understanding and cooperation.
Dr Gandhi said that upon creation of
Commonwealth in 1949, the then Prime
Minister of India Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru had said
that 'Commonwealth would help heal wounds
of the world'. He said that mutual differences
amongst nations and geographical barriers
have posed a threat to the humanity. The
education and safety of the world's two billion
children is our collective responsibility. Chief
Operating Officer of CMS, Prof. Geeta Gandhi
Kingdon spoke on the theme 'Opportunity
Through Enterprise' and opined that by opting
for job people become salaried employees of
others whereas by doing business one can
become self dependent and wealthy. She said
that enterprises are like engines to any nation
that steer the vehicle of progress because
enterprises provide opportunities for growth
and development. Principal of CMS Gomti
Nagar and Convener of Commonwealth Youth
Conference, Ms Manjit Batra said that the
Commonwealth of Nations encourages mutual
cooperation and understanding among the
member nations for greater progress and world
unity. It is significant that the Commonwealth
Day promotes the values that are inherent in
Indian culture and help us to realize our vision
of 'Vasudhaiv Kutumbkam' the whole earth is
but one family by transcending the borders that
divide us. Thus it fulfills our higher aim of World
Unity and World Brotherhood.
Video Conference between CMS students
and their counterparts in England
Students of CMS Asharfabad exchange thoughts of Unity, Peace
and religious harmony with students of Nottingham Girls’ High School, U.K.
The students of CMS Asharfabad campus
had a unique experience of learning
about their peers in United Kingdom
with a video conferencing session
conducted with students of Nottingham
Girls' High School, England. Through this
video conferencing session students of
these two countries exchanged
distinguishing marks of their respective
institutions, such as, teaching
methodology, community, social
infrastructure, religion, life-style, main
festivals etc. besides discussing the issues
related to unity, peace and religious harmony.
The students of both the schools were
overwhelmed because despite distance their
hobbies and thoughts were similar and they
both were desirous for peace and unity in the
world.
Most of the discussion focused on festivals
that are celebrated in each community. They
were surprised to know that CMS imparts the
teachings of religious harmony, social unity
and global unity. CMS students told the
English students that 'God is One, Mankind is
One and religion is one. The English students
were quite happy to know that CMS students
offer prayers of all religions and that they
celebrate festivals of all religions. They asked
questions about the unity in diversity. The
students of England were impressed with the
broad outlook of CMS students and admired
them for having the noble virtues of unity of
the human race. They were further impressed
that the CMS students accorded top priority to
global unity then to faith in religions. They
were also impressed that CMS students
