Mar 2013
Welcome
...to our latest issue. It’s a packed
one; March is a busy month in the
church’s calendar, with Lent and Holy
week and Mothering Sunday, as well
as initiatives like Fairtrade Fortnight,
which is now well supported by
many churches in Devon. This issue
we feature the Real Easter Egg,
which was hard to come by in shops
last year, so do order yours early. If
you’d like to keep up to date with
news from around the Diocese,
do remember to subscribe to our
e-bulletin Roots by visiting our
THERE WAS NO “flash
of light” or “clap
of thunder”, just
a quiet recognition of
God’s love for me, and an
increasing awareness of a
need within me to make
a commitment to God’s
love in the world, through
Jesus his Son.
Growing up in a
congregational church
manse, my earliest
memories are of my
parents working within
the church, and our
lives revolving around
church life. I became a
church member of the
United Reformed Church
in 1981 and my sense of
commitment and service
deepened when I became
an elder.
by our church was
fantastic. For me, being a
Christian is about sharing
the love of God to people
around you. Sometimes
that is very difficult to do
but it’s worth it!
I am lucky that I have a
job which enables me to
do this on a daily basis.
I have been privileged
to be alongside people
in their times of sorrow
and joy. My family and
I have attended family
services at St John in the
Wilderness since April
Watching the baptism of
my then new husband
Tim was an exciting time
for me, and it deepened
our shared life together.
Seeing our baby son
Ralph, now aged 8,
welcomed and supported
QUIET
News
2012. We did not attend
church, after moving
to Exmouth, for about
ten months, as we felt
we needed a break for
reflection but I missed the
rhythm of church life and I
lost my way.
Our church is different
to the one I grew up in
but I have felt cared for
again. My excitement for
church and God’s love has
returned and that’s what
I want for Ralph, Tim and
me as we face the future
together.
