North Port Chorale presents ‘Spring Along’<br />

PROVIDED BY THE NORTH PORT CHORALE<br />

The North Port Chorale, under the direction<br />

of Pat Prentzel, will present its final concert<br />

of the season, “Spring Along,” at<br />

7 p.m. Saturday at the North Port Performing Arts<br />

Center, 6400 W. Price Blvd., North Port.<br />

The 70-member community chorus, accompanied<br />

by Dolores J. Smith, will sing various<br />

patriotic, popular and contemporary songs, such<br />

as “An American Medley,” “Steal Away,” “Do Lord<br />

Remember Me,” “Mi Vida, Mi Cancion,” “Old Time<br />

Religion Medley,” “I Believe” and an Andrew Lloyd<br />

Webber medley.<br />

This will be Prentzel’s final concert as music<br />

director. Jeffrey A. Herbert was named director<br />

effective June 1. Prentzel has been the Chorale’s<br />

director since 1998. She earned her master’s<br />

degree in education from Temple University, was<br />

a music teacher in the public school system for<br />

20 years, been a concert pianist and appeared<br />

with major symphony orchestras, including the<br />

National Symphony of Washington, D.C. She<br />

is choir director and organist at Hope Lutheran<br />

Church in Gulf Cove and also teaches private<br />

voice and piano students. Prentzel will continue<br />

on as Soundsations director.<br />

The Chorale will be joined by their show choir,<br />

the 18-voice Soundsations. Guest performers will<br />

be the Lamarque Elementary Chorus under the<br />

direction of Kimberly Campos. The group is comprised<br />

of fourth-and-fifth grade students. They<br />

have performed this season with both the North<br />

Port Concert Band and the North Port Symphony.<br />

The North Port Chorale, Inc. is a non-profit<br />

integral and active member in the cultural life of<br />

David Ball brings new band to Operation Troop Aid<br />

Grammy Award winner David Ball will bring his<br />

new band to Fort Myers for Operation Troop Aid<br />

at the Victory Lane Cafe at 8 p.m. Thursday.<br />

After selling 3 million copies of his debut<br />

record “Thinkin’ Problem,” Ball collaborated with<br />

Bob Dylan on “The Songs of Jimmie Rodgers – A<br />

Tribute” and won a Grammy for his contribution<br />

to the 2005 collection “Beautiful Dreamer-The<br />

Songs of Stephen Foster.” He was one of the<br />

first artists to take an independent release to the<br />

Country Top 5 with “Riding With Private Malone.”<br />

In 2011, Ball became an honorary board member of<br />

his charity, Operation Troop Aid. OTA raises money for<br />

care packages delivered at mail call to the U.S. military<br />

around the world and offers bill assistance.<br />

Ball is currently on tour in support of his ninth<br />

studio album, “Sparkle City,” being backed by his<br />

band, The Pioneer Playboys.<br />

North Port Concert Band presents ’This Land is Your Land!’<br />

The North Port Concert Band and conductor<br />

Dennis Silkebakken will present a grand<br />

finale concert “This Land is Your Land!’ at<br />

7:30 p.m. Thursday at the North Port Performing<br />

Arts Center, 6400 W. Price Blvd., North Port.<br />

This grand tour will transport the audience on<br />

a musical journey from coast to coast. “The yellow<br />

Rose of Texas,” highlights from “Jersey Boys”<br />

and “The Pennsylvania Polka” are a few stops<br />

along the way.<br />

Dixieland soloists will perform Dixieland favorites<br />

including “Beal Street Blues” and “Tiger Rag.”<br />

Guest soloist, David Downer is sure to bring<br />

back many musical memories with “l Left My<br />

Heart in San Francisco” and “New York, New<br />

York,” and as a very special treat, band member<br />

and concert pianist Bill Cerny will perform Franz<br />

Liszt’s “Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2.”<br />

The Concert Band will host a reception with<br />

free refreshments for all members of the audience<br />

in the courtyard during intermission.<br />
