E/N/C/V April 25-May 1, 2012 SPOTLIGHT D’Vines Wine & Gift Emporium BY JON BAUMANN SUN CORRESPONDENT Opened in July of 2008 by Maureen Stasi, D’Vines Wine & Gift Emporium, located at 701 JC Center Court in Port Charlotte, immediately established itself as more than a place to buy wine. D’Vines is an experience for wine customers, both novice and expert alike. Considered a small boutique wine and gift shop, offering wines that customers would not normally find at grocery or other stores, D’Vines allows people to taste various wines so they can be sure the wine is right for them before purchase. There are wines from California, the Finger Lakes region of New York, Australia, Italy, France and many other wine regions of the world. Stasi spent more than 30 years working in the pharmaceutical industry. When an opportunity appeared, she took advantage of her passion for wine to create D’Vines. “I wanted to bring a new experience to Port Charlotte and the surrounding areas, including Lake Suzy and Deep Creek,” Stasi said. “Every weekend we have a tasting going on. We give people a chance to enjoy and taste something different.” In addition to her affinity for wine, Stasi is a creative force, with an attention to detail that drives the special atmosphere found at D’Vines. While wine is the star of the shop, other offerings accent the wines. Pairings include both milk and dark chocolates, cigars, gourmet potato chips, cheeses, biscuits and much more. The latest menu item is tapas, a variety of appetizers in Spanish cuisine. In addition to weekly tastings and food choices, D’Vines offers a variety of entertainment throughout the month, including movie nights, acoustic jams and comedy appearances. There is so much more to this unique place, but, like any service business, the glue that holds it altogether is a friendly, knowledgeable staff. “Everybody that I have working here, we’re sponges, we absorb,” points out Stasi. “We have some great wine distribution reps. We’ve leaned on them a lot in the last four years. Because of them we’ve survived this market and we’ve built our clientele.” D’Vines is a laid back, come-as-you are place to kick back and relax.
