Phenomenal Volunteers: Roadside Rest
On November 8, 2008, the world's greatest athletes came to Clearwater
for the Ironman 70.3 series competition. Over 70 CCC students joined
thousands of local volunteers to help the city host this prestigious
competition. The 7½-hour event began at seven a.m. and continued
non-stop until athletes crossed the finish line.
CCC has supported the Ironman competition for a couple of years with
the help of student organizations. This year, the Junior Class sponsored
the large Bike Aid Station on McMullen-Booth Road and the Men’s Change
Tent at Pier 60, where the race starts and ends. A brand new ladies’
Greek organization, TDX, sponsored the Women’s Change Tent at Pier 60.
Students also helped out with Medical, Timing, Wet Suit Peeling, and
Doping Control Escorts.
“Ironman 70.3 is awe-inspiring, and the athletes are incredible,” says Mr.
Ryan Dupee, Vice President for Student Life. “Students are always excited
about the event and amazed at the level of endurance and abilities!”
Volunteering for Ironman is a great way to have fun, make friends and
show the community why it’s cool to be from CCC!
