Who Says The Sky's The Limit
One day as a young teenager, Steve
Casarow jumped at the chance to take
his first airplane ride. “I still remember
that flight vividly,” he says. He went on
to earn his commercial instrument
multi-engine license and train other
people to fly.
He also had early encounters with
computers. During college in the 1970s
he worked on an IBM system 138
mainframe, and his first personal
computer was a Radio Shack TRS-80
Model 1.
After graduating with a business
degree, Mr. Casarow spent most of
his professional career in Phoenix as
an insurance company development
manager, stockbroker, information
systems manager, data processing
supervisor, and sales representative.
Over the years he’s worked with
significant products and accounts, from
Prudential to IBM to Home Depot.
His entrepreneurial skills led him to start
a successful swimming pool cleaning
business. Plus, he earned an MBA on the
University of Phoenix campus.
But when CCC offered his wife a
teaching job in 2002, he realized that God
wanted them both to move to
Clearwater. “I sold my pool business,
house, and plane hangar all within a few
weeks. That’s how God works
sometimes.”
Mr. Casarow now teaches classes at CCC
on computers, information systems
management (ISM), and other business
topics. His well-rounded background
ensures that students learn the ropes
from someone who’s well-grounded in
the industry.
“Everything I’ve done in life has prepared
me for this job,” he says. “I help students
understand how companies actually use
their systems and software to stay ahead
of the market.” How does he like the
CCC campus experience “I love working
with the kids – they’re like a bunch of
sons and daughters to me.”
Despite his busy teaching schedule, Mr.
Casarow is currently studying for a Ph.D.
in Information Systems Management at
Argosy University. We could get into his
love for golf and how he’s helped the
Clearwater golf team improve its swing
– but that’s a whole 'nother story.
For Mr. Casarow, the sky is definitely not
the limit.
