Airlines<br />

<strong>Nanaimo</strong> Airport (YCD) is in Cassidy,<br />

18 kilometres south of downtown <strong>Nanaimo</strong>.<br />

Planes fly to and from Vancouver and<br />

Calgary. You can travel by airplane to most<br />

cities in British Columbia. Small airlines fly<br />

to smaller cities in B.C. and western Canada.<br />

Phone an airline company or talk to a travel<br />

agent for information on air travel. Look<br />

in the yellow pages, under Airlines, Airline<br />

Ticket Agencies, or Travel Agencies.<br />

Buses<br />

Buses travel between towns and cities<br />

throughout British Columbia. Greyhound<br />

travels to most cities in Canada and the<br />

United States. Pacific Coach Lines travels to<br />

and on Vancouver Island. To call about route<br />

and schedule information, look in the yellow<br />

pages, under Bus Lines, or contact Greyhound<br />

Canada at 1 800 661-8747 (TRIP) or on the<br />

Internet at www.greyhound.ca<br />

Trains<br />

Trains travel between many cities and towns<br />

in B.C. VIA Rail operates railway passenger<br />

routes in B.C.:<br />

• east from Vancouver through Kamloops to<br />

Alberta and other provinces<br />

• in Northern B.C., between Prince Rupert<br />

on the Pacific Coast and Jasper, Alberta<br />

There are no passenger trains in <strong>Nanaimo</strong>.<br />

For information, call VIA Rail at 1 888 VIA-<br />

RAIL (1 888 842-7245). There is also railway<br />

service between Vancouver and Seattle,<br />

Washington. For information, call Amtrak at<br />

1 800 USA-RAIL (1 800 872-7245).<br />

Ferries<br />

Ferries connect Vancouver with cities on<br />

Vancouver Island, such as Victoria and<br />

<strong>Nanaimo</strong>. Other ferries go to small coastal<br />

islands and the Sunshine Coast. On some<br />

routes, it is a good idea to have a reservation.<br />

There are also ferries on lakes in the B.C.<br />

interior. There is no fee for these ferries. For<br />
