46 Admission<br />

Required Coursework<br />

Applicants who graduate from an accredited Texas public or private high school<br />

applying to Texas A&M University must have completed either the State of Texas<br />

recommended or advanced/distinguished high school curriculum. Please visit<br />

admissions.tamu.edu for a complete description of coursework including information for<br />

home-schooled and out-of-state applicants.<br />

State of Texas Uniform Admission Policy<br />

Texas Education Code (TEC) 51.803-51.809 requires that all freshman applicants<br />

meet one of the following college readiness standards in order to be eligible to be considered<br />

for admission at a Texas four-year public institution.<br />

• Successfully complete the State of Texas recommended or advanced high school<br />

program or complete the portion of the program that was available to them; or<br />

• Successfully complete a curriculum that is equivalent in content and rigor to the<br />

recommended or advanced high school program at a high school that is exempt<br />

from offering such programs; or<br />

• Satisfy the College Readiness Benchmarks on the SAT or ACT assessment.<br />

• SAT – 1500 out of 2400 (Verbal + Math + Writing)<br />

• ACT – 18 English, 21 Reading, 22 Mathematics and 24 Science<br />

Additional Information for Freshman Applicants<br />

A. Information Presented in the Application<br />

• Extracurricular activities including time commitment and duration of involvement<br />

• Leadership and/or exceptional talent as shown in extracurricular activities and/<br />

or work<br />

• Community/volunteer work including time commitment and duration of involvement<br />

• Awards and achievements earned while in high school<br />

• Employment and/or internships including dates of work and hours per week<br />

• Family educational background and household income<br />

B. Essay Topics A and B<br />

• Essay Topics A and B on the ApplyTexas Application are required for admission<br />

processing. Essay Topic C is recommended for applicants in the holistic review<br />

process. Scholarship review by departments may utilize Essay Topics A, B and<br />

C in award decisions. Those applying for the Terry Scholarship are required to<br />

complete Essay Topic C.<br />

Freshman Admissions<br />

When all credentials necessary to complete a freshman applicant’s file are received<br />

during the admission application period, one of the following criteria will be used to<br />

determine who will be offered admission:
