The Town of Georgina posts Council Highlights
on the Town’s website under the heading
“Mayor and Council”.
These highlights will be posted every Friday
following the Council meeting. The highlights
are a short update on what is happening in the
Town of Georgina and to provide information
to all residents of Georgina on actions taken by
Council at Public Council Meetings.

every month by pressing the

battery-operated alarms,
change the batteries at least
once a year or whenever the
low-battery warning chirps.
Don’t remove the batteries
for any other reason.

NEW YRT SERVICE KEEPS GEORGINA
COMMUTERS CONNECTED
York Region Transit has a new weekday shuttle service operating between the new South
Keswick Commuter Parking Lot and the East Gwillimbury GO Station.
New Route 220 – Keswick GO Shuttle offers a Park ‘n’ Ride option to riders using the new
commuter parking lot at Woodbine Avenue and Glenwoods Avenue in Keswick. Two morning
southbound (6 a.m. and 7 a.m.) and two afternoon northbound (5:53 p.m. and 7:13 p.m.) trips
align to meet with GO Trains at the East Gwillimbury GO Station. 50¢ to GO may be used on
this route with valid GO Train tickets or passes.

BLUE BOXES
Reminder: All plastic bags must be
removed from your recycle material.
Yes, even the plastic bag your newspaper
comes in must be removed before
placing the paper in the blue box, as
the plastic jams the sorting machines
used to separate the recyclable material.
If you have overflow material,
place it in a cardboard box no larger
than your blue box or purchase another
blue box from the Civic Centre, your
local library, or the Ice Palace for just
$5.00, for either the 16 gallon or 22
gallon box. Do not place recyclables in
a plastic bag. If your blue box is broken
bring it to any of the above locations
and receive a new box free of
charge.

Do you have talent Have you ever dreamed about being a
“star” WELL, HERE’S YOUR CHANCE!!
The Town of Georgina and Sutton Agricultural Society are holding open
auditions for the sixth annual “Georgina Idol” Competition!!! That’s right! If
you are between the ages of 13 and 18, are a permanent resident of the Town
of Georgina and have a great singing voice, then we invite you to come out for
an audition to showcase your talent! From the entries, the judges will choose
10 finalists to compete on the opening night of the 154th Sutton Fair & Horse
Show, following the Sutton Fair Ambassador Contest, for the grand prize of
$1000.00 and the honour of being named Georgina’s Idol!
The contest dates and times are as follows:
• Open Auditions: Sunday, June 7/09 - 10:00 a.m. - Stephen Leacock Theatre,
Keswick
* Each contestant is required to pay a non-refundable $10.00 registration fee to be eligible
to compete. Payment is required with submission of registration. Cheques are to
be made payable to “Town of Georgina – Georgina Idol Contest”
• Final Competition: Thursday, August 6/09 – Sutton Fairgrounds – Following the

PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE OFFICIAL PLAN, KESWICK SECONDARY PLAN, KESWICK BUSINESS PARK
SECONDARY PLAN, SUTTON SECONDARY PLAN AND PEFFERLAW SECONDARY PLAN
TAKE NOTICE that the Council of the Town of Georgina will be holding a public meeting on Monday, June 22, 2009 at approximately 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Georgina
Civic Centre at 26557 Civic Centre Road, Keswick, to consider proposed amendments to the Town’s Official Plan, pursuant to Sections 17 and 21 of the Planning Act, R.S.O., 1990, as amended.
Please note that there may be more than one public meeting scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on this date and that this matter will be dealt with in the order that it appears on the agenda or as
Council may determine.
LOCATION:
The lands subject to these amendments include all lands within the Town of Georgina, therefore no Key Map has been provided.
PROPOSAL:
The Town of Georgina is proposing general amendments to the Official Plan and the Secondary Plans intended to implement new provisions in the Planning Act with respect to Pre-Consultation,
Complete Application Requirements, and updated Site Plan Control policies.
The proposed Official Plan amendments regarding Pre-Consultation and Complete Application requirements would add or amend policies to:
(1) require pre-consultation for applications made under the Planning Act as deemed appropriate by the Town;
(2) require any information and material, in addition to what is prescribed under the Planning Act, that the Town considers it may need to assess an application for Official Plan amendments,
zoning by-law amendments, draft plans of subdivision, draft plans of condominium, site plans or consents;
(3) respond to applicants regarding the completeness of their applications for Official Plan amendments, zoning by-law amendments, draft plans of subdivision and draft plans of condominium;
and
(4) refuse to accept or further consider an application for consent if the required information and material is not submitted.
The proposed Official Plan amendments regarding Site Plan Control would add or amend policies to include matters related to: exterior design (“architectural control”), including character,
scale, appearance and design; to address sustainable design elements within municipal rights-of-way; and to design facilities to have regard for accessibility for persons with disabilities.
OPPORTUNITIES TO PROVIDE COMMENT:
ANY PERSON may attend the public meeting and/or make written or verbal presentation either in support of or in opposition to the matters being considered at the meeting.
If a person or public body does not make oral submissions at a public meeting or make written submission to the Town of Georgina before the proposed official plan amendments are
adopted, the person or public body is not entitled to appeal the decision of the Regional Municipality of York to the Ontario Municipal Board. Furthermore, the person or public body
may not be added as a party to the hearing of an appeal before the Ontario Municipal Board unless, in the opinion of the
Board, there are reasonable grounds to do so.
If you wish to appeal the decision of the Regional Municipality of York to the Ontario Municipal Board, a copy of the appeal form
is available from the OMB website at www.omb.gov.on.ca, from the Town of Georgina website at www.georgina.ca or from the
Town of Georgina Planning and Building Department.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION relating to the proposed amendments, including a copy of the proposed Official Plan amendment
documents, is available for inspection at the Planning and Building Department from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on regular business
days. A copy of the staff report will be available upon request from the Planning and Building Department, as of the afternoon
of Friday, June 19, 2009.
