If a fire occurred in your
home, would your smoke
alarms work Don’t wait for
a fire to find out. Smoke
alarms can alert you and
your family and give you the
precious seconds you need
to escape.
Make sure your smoke
alarms are in good working
order. Test your alarms
every month by pressing the
test button or cover until
the alarm sounds. For
battery-operated alarms,
change the batteries at least
once a year or whenever the
low-battery warning chirps.
Don’t remove the batteries
for any other reason.
BLUE BOXES
Reminder: All plastic bags must be
removed from your recycle material.
Yes, even the plastic bag your newspaper
comes in must be removed before
placing the paper in the blue box, as
the plastic jams the sorting machines
used to separate the recyclable material.
If you have overflow material,
place it in a cardboard box no larger
than your blue box or purchase another
blue box from the Civic Centre, your
local library, or the Ice Palace for just
$5.00, for either the 16 gallon or 22
gallon box. Do not place recyclables in
a plastic bag. If your blue box is broken
bring it to any of the above locations
and receive a new box free of
charge.
