8 How To Get Decisions Introduction The purpose of giving Bible studies, preaching sermons and teaching baptism classes is to lead people to make decisions for Christ and church membership. What The Bible Says About Decisions In the Bible, salvation is in the present tense. It is a free gift from God, but it is also something a person decides he or she wants. That means each of us makes a choice and a decision. To<strong>day</strong> if ye will hear His voice harden not your hearts (Hebrews 3:15). Behold now is the accepted time; behold, now is the <strong>day</strong> of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2). You do not have, because you do not ask God (James 4:2). Paul: I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings. . . . For I am not seeking my own good but the good of many, so that they may be saved (1 Corinthians 9: 23, 33). Jesus to Paul: I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen of me and what I will show you. I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am Personal Ministries Handbook, page 47 sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me (Acts 26: 16-18). Jesus to His disciples: You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name (John 15:16).
