Welcome to Caribbean Days Festival at Waterfront Park! We are
glad to have you as our guest.
Each July, this great event takes place in this beautiful shorefront
park with its scenic view of the city skyline. We are fortunate to
celebrate culture and community in such an awe-inspiring location.
Caribbean Days Festival is now enjoying its 23rd year. It is produced
by a hard-working team of volunteers. And as always, we require
the participation of those in the local community, including residents,
businesses and organizations on the North Shore and throughout
the Greater Vancouver area. We thank you for your continued
patronage, and invite you to explore with us how you can get
even more involved in the future. Consider becoming a volunteer
or partner next year. Visit our Web site for more details, at www.
caribbeandays.ca/join.
Please enjoy the wonderful entertainment we have planned for this
year, including the weekend’s headlining act, Moses Revolution, who
play Saturday evening at our Waterfront Party. In its glittering setting
at Lonsdale Quay Plaza, the event is a spectacle not to be missed.
Taste the flavours made available to you by our food concessions
partners, then relax with a cold beverage while you listen to
Caribbean rhythms. Browse the crafts and clothing for bargains, then
learn about various West Indian cultures, which originate from one of
the most ethnically diverse areas on our planet.
Have a fantastic weekend at Caribbean Days Festival, and we’ll see
you again next year!
WELCOME from the Government of Canada
Welcome:
On behalf of North Vancouver City Council and citizens, it is my pleasure to
welcome everyone to the 2010 Caribbean Days Parade and Festival for
the weekend of July 24 th to 25 th at Waterfront Park.
This annual community celebration draws thousands of residents and
visitors to the City’s waterfront for a weekend of music, dining, dancing and
celebrating Caribbean culture. With a variety of shows and activities that
highlight our community’s rich cultural diversity, the 23 rd annual Caribbean
Days festival is bound to be another vibrant and welcoming community
attraction.
The Trinidad and Tobago Cultural Society of BC continues to volunteer
their talents to put on an excellent festival year after year. I would like to
take this opportunity to thank them and the many volunteers that make
Caribbean Days such a great success.
WELCOME from the District of North Vancouver
community leaders
Each year, the Trinidad & Tobago Cultural Society of British Columbia
honours outstanding leaders in the local community. This year, the following
deserving candidates have each been selected for an award to
be presented at the TTCS’ Independence/Republic Day Dinner & Dance
on September 11th 2010. Event details can be found at www.ttcsbc.org.
Florence Ali
Flora Ali is a great example of a person who acts as a natural leader
without consciously trying to be one. As the long-standing chairperson
of the TTCS’ Social Committee, as well as the Volunteer Coordinator &
Hospitality Tent supervisor at Caribbean Days Festival, Flora’s ability to
draw people to participate has served her and the Society well.
Florence Ali is to be awarded the Trinidad and Tobago Cultural Society
of BC Award for 2010.
Arnold Cambridge
Arnold’s magnetic personality and folksy approach are well known in the
local Caribbean community. But don’t be fooled by the smooth delivery
of this TTCS Past President. On his broad shoulders has rested a significant
share of the burden involved in perpetuating the success of the
TTCS of BC, and as Vendor and Concessions Coordinator, the success
of Caribbean Days Festival as well.
Arnold Cambridge is to be presented the President’s Award for 2010.
OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT Award Winners 2010
Nalda Callender
Having carried the title of Executive Director of the National Congress of
Black Women Foundation for years, Nalda has become recognized as a
community leader both in BC and in Canadadian multicultural circles.
Nalda’s work on behalf of women and in raising awareness of HIV/AIDS
is well known and appreciated. Her tireless giving without expecting
return has garnered Nalda immense respect. She is a true leader in the
community.
Nalda Callendar is to receive the TTCS’ Outstanding Achievement
Award for 2010.
