Piano Rules and Regulations<br />
1. A fee of $9 will be charged for each entry.<br />
2. <strong>School</strong>s may have an unlimited number of participants.<br />
3. All entry fees should be sent to Alan S. Greiner, Executive Director, <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong><br />
Music Association, Boone, <strong>Iowa</strong> 50036-0010.<br />
4. Adjudication forms were mailed in <strong>No</strong>vember with registration forms. <strong>The</strong>y may also<br />
be downloaded from our website - www.ihsma.org.<br />
5. Piano adjudication forms must be completed in every detail - school name, soloist,<br />
selection, and be returned to your Festival Site Manager by <strong>January</strong> 30, <strong>2002</strong>.<br />
6. <strong>The</strong> solo(s) will be performed from memory.<br />
7. A copy of the score(s) will be provided for the convenience of the adjudicator. All<br />
measures must be numbered. A performance will not be permitted for participants<br />
that do not comply with this regulation. Copies are not permitted. Judges will withhold<br />
the rating for all performances employing illegally duplicated scores. <strong>The</strong>se<br />
performances will be disqualified by the Executive Director.<br />
8. Time limit is 5 minutes. <strong>The</strong>re is a 2 1/2 minute minimum performance time which<br />
will be penalized at the rate of 1 point for every 15 second segment of violation.<br />
9. Soloists must be eligible high school students (grades 9-12).<br />
10. Only member schools can register students for participation.<br />
11. <strong>The</strong> rating system employed for this festival will be: Division I, II, III, IV, V - Superior,<br />
Excellent, Good, Fair, Poor.<br />
12. <strong>The</strong> host school and site will send a schedule to each participating school.<br />
13. A 15-second warm-up period will be permitted on the center piano to allow the<br />
students to determine the touch and feel for the instrument.<br />
14. Adjudicators may speak with participants for a brief moment at the conclusion of their<br />
performance.<br />
15. Comments Only performances will be allowed for this festival. Participants wishing<br />
to perform for “Comments Only” should write COMMENTS ONLY boldly across the<br />
top of the adjudication form.<br />
