4 GEOLOGY AND MINERALISATION 4.1 Regional Economic Geology Almost two thirds of Mozambique is covered by Precambrian rocks (Archaean to Neoproterozoic) which occur mostly in the north and northwest of the country. Phanerozoic terrains comprise the remaining one third of the rocks and generally occur south of the Zambezi valley and along the coastal belt in the northeast (Figure 4-1).
