education for physicians. 

RSNA designates this educational activity 

for a maximum of 87.5 AMA PRA Category 

1 Credits . Physicians should only claim 

credit commensurate with the extent of 

their participation in the activity. 

The Commission on Accreditation of 

Medical Physics Education Programs 

(CAMPEP) has approved the direct 

transfer of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit 

to MPCEC on a credit-for-credit basis for 

medical physicists. 

RSNA is an ARRT ® -approved 

Recognized Continuing Education

Refresher Courses (RC) 

Refresher courses are designed to cover 

both traditional and cutting-edge topics 

in a subspecialty area. RSNA offers more 

than 300 peer-reviewed refresher courses 

to enhance your knowledge. 

Multisession Courses 

Multisession courses are scheduled in 

time blocks, ranging from several hours to 

several days, to allow intensive study of 

various topics. 

Essentials of Radiology (ES) 

A 2-day series of eight refresher courses 

designed especially for generalists and 

trainees. Topics are musculoskeletal, 

cardiac, pediatrics, genitourinary/ 

gynecologic, trauma, neuroradiology, 

abdominal, and chest. 

Case-Based Review 

Daylong, case-based courses in neuroradiology, 

pediatric radiology, interventional 

radiology, and MR. The BOOST program 

will include a 90-minute case-based 

review in radiation oncology each 

afternoon Monday through Thursday. An 

audience-response system assists with 

self-assessment. 

Series Courses 

Each course in a series combines education 

and research on related topics. Series 

courses in 2008 are gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, 

neuroradiology, pediatrics, 

breast, chest, GI/emergency, genitourinary, 

and interventional oncology. 

Associated Sciences (AS) 

Ten refresher courses over 2½ days. 

Courses begin Monday morning with

Radiologist Assistants Symposium (RA) 

Five refresher courses on Sunday 

designed to meet the educational 

needs of the radiologist assistant (RA) 

as defined by ARRT ® . Topics in 2008 

are the RA Role in Breast Intervention, 

Education and Certification, Practice 

in Nuclear Medicine and Sonography, 

Radiologist Preceptor in RA Education, and 

Extending the Reach of the Radiologist. 

Digital Mammography Training and 

Self-Assessment Workshop 

Practical interactive training sessions 

to test your skills and improve performance 

in mammography screening 

using state-of-the-art workstations.

Molecular Imaging Symposium (MI) 

Daylong series of four sessions on molecular 

imaging for the practicing radiologist. 

Topics include an introduction and overview 

of molecular imaging and applications of 

molecular imaging in oncology, cardiovascular 

imaging, and neurology. 

Quality Improvement Symposium (QI) 

Daylong series of four sessions focusing 

on quality improvement in radiology practices. 

Topics include process improvement, 

customer satisfaction, patient safety, and 

professional assessment. 

Bolstering Oncoradiologic and 

Oncoradiotherapeutic Skills for 

Tomorrow (BOOST) Program (RO) 

Leaders in radiation oncology, diagnostic 

radiology, biology, and physics provide 

4 days of concentrated courses. Each 

day focuses on particular diseases and 

includes a refresher course on anatomy, 

natural history, and contouring; scientific 

papers; and case-based reviews. Monday: 

head and neck; Tuesday: lung and central 

nervous system; Wednesday: gastrointestinal 

and prostate; Thursday: gynecologic. 

CME 

RSNA is accredited by the Accreditation 

Council for Continuing Medical Education 

to provide continuing medical education 

for physicians. AMA PRA Category 1 Credit 

is offered for refresher courses, lectures, 

scientific presentations, and some education

Cardiac CT Mentored Case Review (MC) 

A program designed to assist with satisfying 

one of the recommendations of the 

ACR Practice Guidelines for the Performance 

and Interpretation of Cardiac CT.

Course Learning Objectives 

1. Identify basic anatomic, pathologic and 

physiologic principles as they apply to 

specific disease processes, organ-based 

diagnostic imaging or radiation oncology. 

2. Describe the physics of particular imaging 

and therapeutic modalities for improving 

quality while reducing patient risk and/or 

response. 

3. Analyze current and future imaging and 

therapeutic techniques with respect 

to protocol development, patient 

management, algorithms and cost. 

4. Assess the influence of socioeconomic 

issues on current and future practice 

patterns. 

5. Compare indications and contraindications 

for specific image-guided procedures.

(SAMs) 

RSNA has submitted applications to the 

American Board of Radiology (ABR) to offer 

a series of self-assessment modules to fulfill 

the ABR’s maintenance of certification (MOC) 

requirements. SAMs will be offered in a 

variety of subspecialties as well as in general 

content areas. Courses being offered as SAMs 

are indicated by .

Hands-on Computer Workshops: 

Basic Training for Radiologists and 

Healthcare Professionals 

From Sunday, November 30 through 

Thursday, December 4, commercial 

vendors will conduct classes on their 

respective proprietary computer systems. 

These workshops give attendees the 

opportunity to learn from experts about 

using computers in the field of radiology. 

Gain practical, first-hand knowledge with: 

• State-of-the-art computer equipment 

• Radiology information systems (RIS) 

• Picture archiving and communication 

systems (PACS) 

• Integration of computers into 

radiology practice 

• New techniques used in computeraided 

diagnosis

Hotel rooms are available only to registered 

individuals. Chicago offers a magnificent 

variety of accommodations and 

rates to satisfy every traveler. Last year 

more than 33,000 registrants took advantage 

of our outstanding hotel program. 

For RSNA 2008, we’ve secured more than 

100,000 room nights at 76 downtown 

hotels offering the lowest rates in the city. 

Review the hotel rates listed on page 46, 

then follow the registration form instructions 

on page 50. In the event your hotel 

selections are no longer available, indicate 

which is most important: 

• Cost of your room 

• Location of your hotel 

• Other (make note of your preference)

Reservation Changes 

November 10–17 

Reservations and deposits will be transferred 

from the housing bureau to the 

hotels and therefore cannot be altered 

during this period. 

After November 17 

Contact the hotel directly for date 

changes and room cancellations. 

Room availability and rates are at 

the hotel’s discretion. 

Changes made after November 7 and/or 

up to 7 days prior to date of arrival that 

result in a reduction of total room nights 

will incur a $50 fee charged by the hotel. 

Changes in arrival and departure dates 

made less than 1 week prior to arrival that 

result in a reduction of nights stayed may 

be considered cancellations by the hotel 

and may result in forfeiture of partial or 

all deposits paid. 

Early departure results in the hotel retaining 

the fee for a 1-night stay plus tax or 

the last night’s room deposit of $150, 

whichever is less. 

Failure to check in at the hotel on your 

scheduled arrival day will result in forfeiture 

of your reservation and hotel deposit. 

The hotel will accommodate you on a 

space-available basis. 

Room Cancellations 

Written requests for room cancellations 

and full deposit refunds must reach Experient 

by November 7. 

Reservations canceled after November 7, 

2008, and/or up to 7 days prior to date of 

arrival will incur a $50 cancellation fee. 

Cancellations received less than 7 days 

prior to date of arrival will result in forfeiture 

of the full $300 deposit. 

When canceling your room reservation 

directly with the hotel: 

• Note the date and time of your call 

• Document the name of the person with 

whom you spoke 

• Obtain a cancellation number

page is based on single occupancy. 

Type of bed (single, double, twin) may 

be requested but cannot be confirmed 

until check-in. Suites are available upon

A first and last night room deposit 

totaling $300 is required when a hotel is 

requested. If you plan to arrive after 6:00 pm, 

contact the hotel for a late check-in.

included in your room rate to defray 

the cost of registration and to provide

Hostelling International—Chicago 

The Chicago hostel offers lodging in 

dormitory-style rooms with separate 

accommodations for men and women. 

Rooms range in size from 6–12 beds. Bathrooms 

and shower facilities are plentiful, 

with many available in the dorm rooms as 

well as down the hall. Individual lockers 

are provided in each room, and luggage 

storage is also available. Please bring your 

own lock for the lockers or purchase a 

lock at the front desk. All guests receive 

bed linens, towel, and pillow. A 1-night 

deposit of $40 is required. Please adjust 

the deposit amount on the Advance Registration 

and Housing form.

RSNA offers an official letter of invitation 

for RSNA 2008 attendees. The visa letter 

of invitation, though not required for the 

visa application, can assist as a supporting 

document. Present this letter of invitation 

from RSNA to the Consular Officer during 

the visa interview.

This letter by no means guarantees admittance 

into the U.S., but can provide compelling 

evidence for immigration officials

Visa Waiver Program 

The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) enables 

nationals of certain countries to travel 

to the United States for tourism or business 

for stays of 90 days or less without 

obtaining a visa. For more information

US-VISIT 

US-VISIT currently applies to all visitors 

(with limited exemptions) entering the 

United States. This includes visitors traveling 

under the Visa Waiver Program. Visitors 

are photographed and fingerprinted 

upon arrival. In 2008, the US Department 

of Homeland Security began collecting 

additional fingerprints from international 

International Travel Packages 

visitors arriving at O’Hare International 

Airport. The change is part of the department’s 

upgrade from two- to 10-fingerprint 

collection to enhance security

Travel Initiative (WHTI) 

Implemented in 2007, the Western
