March 24 Palm Sunday No Sunday School March 28 Maundy Thursday Service at 7:00 PM will include communion and explanation of how Christ’s work is revealed in the Passover Seder March 29 Good Friday The Sanctuary will be open from noon to 3:00 PM and devotional material available March 30 Holy Saturday Saturday, March 23 at 10:00AM Rain or Shine - Indoors if Inclement Weather Children through age 12 are invited to hunt. (Bring your camera and your basket to collect eggs.) Easter Bunny Appearance Prizes Guaranteed Fun! Wrapped, bite-sized candy donations are needed. Please no candy with nuts. A donation box will be in the foyer. Monetary donations are also accepted. Contact Eileen Fox or Lois Ann if you have any questions. March 31 Easter Sunday Easter service at 7:00 AM will be outside the fellowship hall. At 10:30 AM there will be the Cantata and Pastor Mark will preach (1 Corinthians 15:12-28: “If Christ Be Not Raised”) No Sunday School Thank you to everyone who baked cookies and wrote notes for our Valentine Day boxes to our college students. We filled 18 boxes with baked goodies and hand written notes. What a joy for our college students to know that they are loved by their church family. Daylight-Saving Time—It’s Back: March 10 Everything You Wanted To Know About Daylight-Savings Time from an Interview with Pastor Mark Q. Pastor Mark, why does FPC not implement Daylight Savings Time until after church on Sunday A. Two reasons: first, there are always families who forget to change their clocks – and for their error they miss worship. We do not wish for anyone to miss the most important hour of their week. Doing things the “Fairview way” means that a person or family is not punished for forgetfulness. Secondly, that lost hour takes its toll. This way, everyone gets a full night of sleep. (Say “Amen” somebody!). Q. Pastor Mark, what if we wish to make plans with family or friends from another church, still following the old way of doing things A. Simple: tell your friends or family that you are not available for lunch or other commitment before 1:00 PM that day. Q. Pastor Mark, all my electronic gadgets (phone, computer) automatically set themselves for DST. What should I do A. This one requires a low tech solution. You will need to put your phone alarm in a box somewhere and unpack that old fashioned alarm clock in your drawer. This is a little bit of a nuisance, but is not that extra hour of sleep worth the effort Also, you may want to put a post-it note on your phone and computer screen to remind you to ignore the time they show on Sunday morning. Post-it notes are available at the Welcome Desk. Q. Pastor Mark, is there anything else we should consider about Fairview’s approach to DST A. Yes, DST is an opportunity to invite your neighbors and friends to come to church rested and refreshed! We will turn our clocks forward together during worship. Come to worship at 10:30 AM with a full nights rest. John 15:18-19 Life in the Spirit Romans: Chapter 8 Teachers: Geoff Back and Jim Fox The first seven chapters of Romans explained how God shows us his justice and mercy in putting us right with him through the death of Christ, and how we can have full assurance that we have been changed forever. So, we ask, “What now” That’s a fair question not only for those who are beginning their walk with Christ, but for Christians at any point along the way. As we struggle with sin, endure persecution, and confront suffering, we may wonder how all of these things fit into God’s plan of salvation. We may even wonder how - or if - God is still at work. In this series of sermons from Romans 8 by Alistair Begg, we are reminded that God’s Spirit empowers the Christian life from beginning to end as the persevering love of God holds those who belong to him in Christ. The Spirit enables the child of God to live a new life in submission to God’s law and to mortify the fleshly desires of the old life. He also sustains the believer in suffering and intercedes for us in weakness. This great chapter grounds believers in the gospel reality that God is for us in every aspect of the Christian life, ensuring that, in the words of Augustus Toplady, “the work which his goodness began, the arm of his strength will complete”.
