THE SPOT ON KARPATHOS
Karpathos is a dream come true for all wind addicts. With Chicken Bay
for beginners and intermediates, and Gun Bay for advanced windsurfers,
it provides the right conditions for everybody. Gun Bay is a true high wind
spot, where you will for sure forget your everyday life while flying over the
water. Close to the shore, flat water makes the conditions perfect for practising
jibes, and a small headland provides safety. Those who really want
to go for it can windsurf from Gun Bay into the next bay, called Paradise
Bay, which truly lives up to its name; here the wind is normally 1-2 bft
stronger, and the glassy water is ideal for full speed. Chicken Bay with
its 80 m wide shallow water area is the perfect place for beginners and
intermediates and all freestylers.
WIND AND WAVES
The wind blows cross-offshore from the left (north-west). Very strong
winds create a swell of around 1m (approx. 300 m offshore) in Gun Bay,
which is ideal for jump-novices as well as loop-jumping pro’s. The wind in
Chicken Bay also blows cross-offshore from the left, but is not as strong.
THE CENTER
There are two Club Mistral centers on Karpathos. The main one is located
in Gun Bay, in the same building as the “Club Anemos“ taverna & bar
There the day starts with a big, tasty breakfast, and for lunch and dinner
the chef indulges you with daily specials. Of course our bar is also the right
place to be in the evening. For all non-windsurfers we have a very nice
terrace with sun loungers right in front of the center, which is protected by
the wind. Those who still have some energy left after windsurfing can run
riot on the volleyball court. The second center is situated in Chicken Bay,
also called “Speed Lagoon”. From the main center you can reach Chicken
Bay by windsurfing over there! One voucher allows you to switch between
the two centers. Both bays, Gun Bay and Chicken Bay are constantly
being observed, and there are 2 rescue boats available.

Apolis Beachscape Hotel - Amopi I
This comfortable 4-star hotel is located in Amopi, about 5 km away from
the surf spot in Afiartis, which can easily be reached by rental car. The 35
guest rooms are modern and equipped with bath/WC, air conditioning,
satellite TV, safe and balcony or terrace with sea view. The hotel also offers
a swimming pool, children’s playground, WiFi hotspot and a spa area. It’s
a top hotel with top service.

Hotel Irini I
Finally the hotel has finished the comprehensive refurbishment and now
features a nice pool area, restaurant and spa. The rooms are comfortably
furnished, but air conditioning, fridge, safe and WiFi are subject to extra
charge. The hotel is a good choice for families and surfers who prefer more
comfort. The service can be a bit poor from time to time.

Old Sofia Studios I
The famous Old Sofia Studios are almost right behind our Club Mistral
Center. The studios are simple and functionally furnished with shower/
WC, small stove, fridge and balcony with sea view. New in 2011: free air
conditioning in each unit. We recommend these studios for modest windsurfers.
They are good, low priced and in a great location.

New Sofia Studios I
The New Sofia Studios with six studios and four 2-bedroom apartments
are the more spacious and comfortable, yet more expensive alternative
in the range of apartments on Karpathos. They are very popular amongst
our guests. Our Club Mistral Center is just a few steps away.

New Sofia Studios
Club Anemos I
Here you can jump right out of bed and onto your board. You can‘t live any
closer to the Club Mistral Center than in the center itself. Club Anemos
offers an unbeatable surfer’s atmosphere. You live right in between the
action at a great price. The three cozy rooms are located in the back part
of the building. Breakfast and WiFi are included.

Blue Lagoon Studios I
The Blue Lagoon Studios are also very popular amongst windsurfers.
They are located almost right on the beach of Gun Bay and in close proximity
to our Club Mistral Center. The seven units vary in size. They are
simple and functionally furnished, all with balcony or terrace. Blue Lagoon
is also a good and affordable accommodation, including free WiFi.
