Experiences for Kids<br />
<strong>SEEK</strong> is a unique summer experience<br />
designed to challenge our young people.<br />
Its goal is to stimulate creativity through<br />
hands-on programs in arts, sciences and<br />
physical activities for students ages 5-12.<br />
<strong>Class</strong>es are designed for specific age groups.<br />
<strong>SEEK</strong> is open to all children who wish to<br />
discover and develop their talents.<br />

How to Enroll<br />
Register by calling the LCCC Life Enrichment Office, 307.778.1236, 307.778.1322 and<br />
307.778.1134 to pay with Visa, MasterCard, or Discover; or register at the Center for Conferences<br />
and Institutes and pay with cash, check or credit card. The deadlines for registrations are June 7<br />
for the June session and July 3 for the July session. Cheyenne Frontier Days is July 19-28.<br />
Things to Note<br />
<strong>Class</strong>es fill up quickly, so register early. Enrollment is on a firstcome,<br />
first-served basis. Tuition is refundable if class is dropped by<br />
June 7 for the June session and July 3 for the July session. All-day<br />
students need sack lunches. No refrigerators or microwaves will<br />
be available.<br />

3-D Art – Nicolette Roccaro<br />
Explore the world of three-dimensional art! Each day will be<br />
filled with a unique 3-D activity. You won’t just sculpt with<br />
clay, but it will also be fired so you will take home a finished<br />
piece. Transform old trash into brand new creations, and<br />
sculpt wonders with polymer clay. You will make one of those<br />
wacky-waving-inflatable-arm-guys that you see outside the<br />
car sales lots! You will be surprised with more fun 3-D activities.<br />
Abstract Madness! – Janelle Charterina<br />
Find the Picasso in you and explore the endless possibilities<br />
of abstract art. Using watercolor paints, oil pastels, wire and<br />
more, watch as your art comes to life. From paintings to<br />
sculptures, discover the energy of wild colors, crazy shapes and<br />
fun designs. Come join the fun and madness of abstract art!<br />
All About Dinosaurs – Marie Havel<br />
Did you ever wonder what the earth was like when dinosaurs<br />
lived Maybe you have even wondered how big dinosaurs were<br />
or what they ate. Join us as we discover the world of dinosaurs!<br />
We will learn many things about them as well as make our<br />
own fossils, compare our size to a dinosaur, and more!<br />
Allons-y a Paris!<br />
(Let’s Go to Paris!) – Paula Egan-Wright<br />
It’s a thrilling Paris fantasy trip! Explore landmarks, create<br />
souvenirs, savor pastries and sing French songs. Monday,<br />
enjoy a “plane ride” followed by treats in a cafe and creation<br />
of souvenir hats. Tuesday, explore Notre Dame Cathedral,<br />
make a gargoyle, scrounge spooky catacombs and meet<br />
a mysterious chocolate maker. Wednesday, have your<br />
portrait drawn while you paint. Thursday, race a boat in the<br />
Luxembourg Garden, have a puppet show and savor Italian<br />
ice. Friday, a shopping spree (tattoos and hair dye) on the<br />
Avenue des Champs Elysees.<br />
Aqua Adventure – Kristi Sullivan<br />
Splash into summer with fun water activities! Explore the<br />
science of water with hands-on experiments. Create rain<br />
sticks, sea creatures, snowflakes, and other water crafts,<br />
then be prepared to get wet with exciting water games. Bring<br />
your swimsuit and a towel every day.<br />
Archery & Marksmanship 101 –<br />
Brandon Gettman<br />
Kids will learn to shoot a bow with the BASIC method, as an<br />
Olympic archer would shoot. We will shoot with recurve style<br />
bows. Shoot like Legolas or Katniss Everdeen! Come join in<br />
the fun!<br />
Basic Skills for Soccer – Jose Arenas<br />
Do you love to play soccer Are you a new player or have you<br />
already learned a few tricks In this class we will cover the<br />
basic skills such as dribbling, passing and shooting. You will<br />
also learn some neat moves and fun games.<br />
Basketball Skills – Vince Gibson<br />
Are you new to basketball Have you already been playing but<br />
want to get better In this class you will learn how to shoot,<br />
dribble, pass, rebound and play defense. We will also play<br />
small sided games and regular games to put these skills to use.<br />
Build It! – Janelle Charterina<br />
Are you a Lego master or do you simply love building and<br />
designing new things Develop your abilities as a creator.<br />
Examine what the world would look like if built with<br />
LegoSkyscrapers and high rises to the store around the<br />
corner, whether real or fantasy, join us and explore the<br />
endless possibilities of Legos!<br />
Cooking – JoEllen Cline<br />
Stir up some fun while learning in the kitchen. Exploring<br />
kitchen safety and healthy eating habits will start us off to<br />
a yummy beginning. Create beverages, snacks, salads and<br />
more. Some of the foods include fruit smoothies, edible racing<br />
cars, funny bunny salad and volcano meatballs. Take home<br />
the recipe book and treat your family!<br />
Creature Clinic – Shani Stapleton<br />
Get your vet coats on! We are going to treat and care for our<br />
pets in this fun and exciting class. We will do art projects, read<br />
books and treat our pets to the best medical care. Kids will get<br />
hands-on, fun learning about what vets do for animals!<br />
CrossFit Kids – Chris Hall<br />
Do you like to climb trees, jump, run, swing, crawl, and move<br />
around Do you like games, do you love snacks, do you love<br />
sports Do you wish you were more active Every day we will<br />
learn a fun movement such as “Angry Gorillas,” “Laser Squats,”<br />
and “Holding up the Sky”! We will also practice somersaults,<br />
log rolls, and use a balance beam. The main focus will be<br />
having fun and playing games like Dodgeball, Tag, and more.<br />
We will also make a tasty, healthy snack each day!<br />
CrossFit Kids Jr. – Chris Hall<br />
CrossFit Kids certified trainer and owner of the CrossFit<br />
Frontier gym in Cheyenne is excited for the first year of<br />
CrossFit Kids Jr. in <strong>SEEK</strong>! Kids, do you like to climb trees,<br />
jump, run, swing, crawl, and move all around Do you like<br />
games, do you love snacks, do you love sports Do you wish<br />
you were more active If you answered yes to any of these<br />
questions then this class is for you. Every day we will learn a<br />
fun movement, practice gymnastics, do a workout of the day<br />
(WOD) and make a healthy, tasty snack.<br />
CrossFit Kids Pre-Teen – Chris Hall<br />
Do you wan to get better at sports, running, jumping, become<br />
stronger, faster, more flexible, make and eat healthy and<br />
tasty snacks Every day we will learn a fun movement like<br />
“Split Jumps,” “Partner Burpees,” “Wall Balls” and many<br />
more. We will also practice gymnastics skills like “Handstand<br />
Walks,” “Frog Stands,” “L-Sits” and many more. We will also<br />
do a workout of the day (WOD) and make and eat a healthy,<br />
tasty snack. We will not only practice skills, test skills, and<br />
exercise while playing games, but we will also learn teamwork<br />
skills working together on TEAM WORKOUTS.<br />
Dig In, The Art and<br />
Science of Plants – Aimee Sommers<br />
Explore the world of plants with art and activities. We will be<br />
making terrariums, soil painting, making fairy gardens or<br />
troll playgrounds and much more! Come learn about plants<br />
through fun and crafts!<br />
Discover Aviation – Marie Havel<br />
Birds fly, why can’t we Come learn about air, how airplanes<br />
fly and how jet engines work as we discover the world of<br />
aviation. Learn about the different parts of an airplane and<br />
build your own. Experiment with air and how it helps the<br />
airplane fly. Find out about the history of aviation and how it<br />
has changed throughout the years.<br />
Do-It-Yourself Mad Scientist – Nicolette Roccaro<br />
Become a Mad Scientist! Each day is filled with several<br />
scientific activities that you can do yourself. Make a bouncy<br />
ball out of an egg, make oobleck, homemade ice cream, rock<br />
candy and more. You will compete with your classmates to<br />
see who can build the best boat and strongest bridge. All<br />
activities will be done by YOU and most can be repeated at<br />
home to show off to your friends.<br />
Drawing, Cartooning, and<br />
Comic Strips – Chris Hall, published cartoonist<br />
Do you like to doodle Do you get in trouble for drawing at<br />
school Do you like to laugh Do you like cartoons or comic<br />
strips In this class, we will watch clips of cartoons, read<br />
samples of comic strips, and use these to discuss basic<br />
and popular drawing techniques. We will also learn how<br />
cartoonists use humor and make things funny. We will learn<br />
to draw cartoons and create a funny comic strip or two before<br />
the end of the week. You can be experienced or a beginner.<br />
Either way you will improve the way you draw cartoons.
Dynamic Design – Donna Dundon<br />
Explore the realm of 2D and 3D design! Who says you can’t<br />
have a great time with math With some simple tools and<br />
an array of art supplies, you can create colorful tanagrams<br />
(Chinese puzzles), tessellations (a pattern of shapes that fit<br />
perfectly together, like that puzzle you did!), mosaics and<br />
art . . . all using geometry and math!<br />
Electricity, Magnetism &<br />
Sound 101 – Loran Krysl<br />
Take part in fun activities with electricity, magnetism<br />
and sound. Build electrical devices that “magically” move<br />
and levitate objects without touching them, that light up<br />
and produce a mild shock, map a magnetic field, make<br />
electromagnets and electric motors, learn how speakers<br />
work, learn about sound waves and vibrations, make a<br />
wineglass sing and break with sound waves. Use a strobe<br />
light to create optical illusions you have to see to believe! The<br />
activities and discussions are appropriate for children 7-9.<br />

Encaustic Painting (Hot Wax Painting) is a once in a lifetime<br />
thing. A quick and exciting way to paint something like<br />
Vincent Van Gogh.<br />
Exploring Space – Kathleen Schwab<br />
To infinity and beyond! Explore the Milky Way galaxy, the<br />
place that we call home. Investigate the sun, stars,<br />
constellations, planets and the moon! We will also look at how<br />
the earth’s movements play an important role in our day and<br />
even in our seasons.<br />
Found Object Art – Nicole Cameron<br />
Found object art is a very different way to create and look<br />
at art. We will learn to use vinyl records to make flowers,<br />
popcorn bowls, mobiles and more. Through this class you<br />
will take different materials and turn them into your very own<br />
unique masterpiece.<br />
Fun in the Garden – Shani Stapleton<br />
Are you ready to grow like a plant In this fun class we will<br />
learn about the wonderful plants we can grow from little<br />
seeds. We will enjoy fun art projects and crafts that explore<br />
the parts of vegetables and flowers. We will learn about the<br />
care of our special green friend. Sign up and watch your very<br />
own plant grow from a seed!<br />
Games, Games and More Games! – Katie Gibson<br />
Lace up your tennis shoes because during this week long<br />
adventure we will be on the move! If you love PE, games, or<br />
just good old fashioned fun, this is the class for you! We will<br />
play basketball, volleyball, racquetball, soccer, kick ball,<br />
ultimate Frisbee, sharks and minnows, croquet, bocce ball,<br />
monkey golf, dodge ball, pin-ball soccer, line tag, and more!<br />
It’s okay if you haven’t played them before, we will teach you<br />
and we will all learn together. Come ready to play, have fun,<br />
and even share your favorite games with us!<br />
Inator: the Science of<br />
Phineas and Ferb – Aimee Sommers<br />
Where’s Perry Each class will include, but is not limited to,<br />
a silly science experiment, animal introduction and city/site<br />
exploration! We will also design and build a prototype of your<br />
own Inator.<br />
International Sports – Russell Stapleton<br />
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to compete<br />
in the Olympics or engage in sporting activities from other<br />
countries Then this is your opportunity! This class will be<br />
a thrilling opportunity to participate in games, sports and<br />
activities from around the globe. Don’t miss the opportunity<br />
to join us for international sports.<br />
Japanese Language and Culture –<br />
Timothy Goetter<br />
Learn to speak, read and write Japanese in one week!<br />
Sample some Japanese snacks and sushi. Discover the<br />
beauty of Japan and its customs-history, shopping, food<br />
and restaurants. Enjoy a Japanese lunch and slide show on<br />
Friday as we celebrate our study of Japan.<br />
Jungle Fun – Shani Stapleton<br />
Do you want to discover the jungle We will explore jungle<br />
animals and make fun craft projects for our jungle. We will<br />
use movement activities, dress up and story time to learn<br />
about the jungle. We will find out where animals live and<br />
what they like to eat. Come along on our safari adventure!<br />
La Folie D’Aquarelle<br />
(Watercolor Wild!) – Paula Egan-Wright<br />
Leave Cheyenne behind and enter the wacky studio of French<br />
watercolor professor, Madame Tigre-Lis (teacher in disguise!).<br />
She’s wild about painting and wants you to be too! You’ll<br />
learn French colors, art supplies, animals, fruits-words you<br />
need to paint. You’ll learn tricks to make clouds look fluffy<br />
and trees bristly, while French language and music fill your<br />
ears. You’ll be equipped with brushes, paper and watercolors<br />
(yours to keep!) and every day, after a short French lesson/<br />
game you’ll be free to CREATE!<br />
Land of Knights,<br />
Ladies and Dragons – Peg Kolsrud<br />
Come to the Land of Knights, Ladies and Dragons. We will<br />
paint a wild dragon, make a suit of armor or a fine hat for her<br />
ladyship. Listen to stories about knights and the roundtable.<br />
Everyone will make a crown to become a king, queen or<br />
princess and learn about family heraldry to make shields and<br />
swords. We will learn sword fighting moves and skills so the<br />
knights can fight off the dragons and the ladies can protect<br />
the castle!<br />
Lego Mindstorm Robot Challenge – Ed Olson<br />
Kids will work in teams to build and program a robot. Their<br />
creation will compete against the other robots to see whose<br />
robot will reign supreme.<br />
“Let’s Fly” –<br />
Calling All Young Aviators – Peg Kolsrud<br />
Apply to fly! Learn how planes stay in the air. Where did<br />
pilots Amelia Earhart and Charles Lindbergh fly You will<br />
build a bi-plane, a glider, a space shuttle, and paint a fighter<br />
jet. Then you will put on your flying gear and become flying<br />
heroes! Plan a special guest (pilot) for Friday, June 21.<br />
Lights, Camera, Action! – Kristi Sullivan<br />
Wanted: Actors and actresses to perform in your very own<br />
movie. Design, produce and act out various scripts, complete<br />
with costumes and props. Then take home your very own<br />
DVD copy. You’ll be a star!<br />
Little Chef Camp – Michelle Aldrich<br />
Are you the next Iron Chef We will work on knife skills,<br />
cooking methods, try new foods and focus on breakfasts and<br />
lunches. By the end of class you will have lots of recipes and<br />
experience. Who knew food and cooking could be so much fun!<br />
Mad Scientists – Carrie Barker<br />
Have you ever wanted to see a pop bottle explode 10 feet into<br />
the air Have you ever wanted to make slime Would you like<br />
to blow up a balloon with PopRocks How about creating a<br />
lava lamp In this class we will do all these things and more!<br />
We will learn about the Scientific Method and perform some<br />
really fun science experiments. Come and be a Mad Scientist.
Making Waves – Olga Craig<br />
This physical activity will include water basketball, volleyball,<br />
lots of water games and relay races. We will cover some of the<br />
basic skills required for swimming, but not formal swimming<br />
lessons. The first two hours will be activities with the last half<br />
hour allowing students free pool time. Students MUST have<br />
some swimming skills and be able to stand in the shallow<br />
end of the pool with their head above the 3½ ft. deep water.<br />
Students may use a coast guard approved life jacket at any<br />
time—bring your own or we will provide an orange style jacket.<br />

Do you love Star Wars, space and making things Learn<br />
about our amazing universe and create fun Star Wars themed<br />
projects including a light-saber, a droid, a spaceship, comics<br />
and much, more! Wear a Star Wars costume to class if you like.<br />
Mini-Chef Camp – Michelle Aldrich<br />
Bam! Would you like to be the next Food Network Star We will<br />
explore a variety of recipes that you will prepare each day, try<br />
new foods, decorate your very own apron and have fun! You<br />
will be ready to make your own snacks and help in the kitchen!<br />
Multi-Cultural Art – Abi Paytoe Gbayee<br />
This will be an exciting class where we explore art from many<br />
cultures. Art projects will include Oaxacan animal sculptures,<br />
Japanese Koi fish kites, Indonesian shadow figures, Tibetan<br />
sand painting and European inkle loom weavings.<br />
North to the Future Alaska – Peg Kolsrud<br />
There's gold in Alaska, Maybe . . . . If you could make it up<br />
Chilkoot Pass! Discover the native crafts of the “49th state.”<br />
Create a spirit mask and a polar bear mask with shaving<br />
cream. Make a giant totem pole and paint a personal totem<br />
pole. Learn about First National Legends and games like “The<br />
Toe Jump.” Listen to stories about the gold fields and the<br />
scientists who explore Alaska, study whales, make an inuit<br />
hunting quiver, and find answers to the question, “How do<br />
you get to Juneau”<br />
Oceans of Fun – Angela Kinsolving<br />
Students will explore the 3 layers of the ocean, animals,<br />
mammals, and other interesting plants. Children will spend<br />
the week painting, using watercolor collage, and dry clay to<br />
create and make replicas of sharks, fish, and other animals<br />
they enjoy learning about everyday.<br />
Papier-Mache Art – Darla Marrill<br />
Do you like to get messy while making a project Would you<br />
like to turn ordinary papers into a piñata, a bowl or a mask<br />
If so, then you need to take this class! It will be EXTREMELY<br />
MESSY so wear old clothes or bring an old t-shirt to wear over<br />
your clothes.<br />
Puppet Making – Abi Paytoe Gbayee<br />
Make your own puppets! We will make finger puppets,<br />
shadow puppets, hand puppets, marionettes and puppet<br />
theaters. This will be a fun time of learning about the<br />
various types of puppets, their history and watching several<br />
performances! We will have a performance time to share our<br />
impromptu plays with parents on Friday.<br />
Rock on Rock Climbing –<br />

Have you ever wanted to climb to the top of the world This<br />
course will be a basic introduction to the world of rock climbing.<br />
Children will learn basic knots, belaying, repelling, basic<br />
techniques of climbing, different types of rock climbing, safety<br />
and teamwork. Please come in shorts, t-shirts and comfortable<br />
sneakers. No skirts, dresses or flip flops. Rock climbing is fun<br />
and exciting so be prepared to have a great time!<br />
S’Mores and More – Russell Stapleton<br />
Get an inside look into the great outdoors. This class will<br />
build an appreciation and knowledge for everything outdoors.<br />
Camping preparation, cooking, arts and crafts along with<br />
local nature hunts will be just some of the exciting topics that<br />
we will experience in this class. Join us on this interactive<br />
appreciation for everything outdoors.<br />
Satellite Slam – Amy Schick<br />
Did you know there are more than 1,000 satellites orbiting<br />
the earth every day What are these satellites doing in outer<br />
space Are they spying on us How do they get into orbit<br />
How do they send information back to the earth Through<br />
experiments and modeling we will take a look at the amazing<br />
world of satellites.<br />

Do you enjoy a good scare Enjoy scaring others This<br />
class is for you! During the week we will be using science to<br />
perform some very spooky tricks. Though messy and scary,<br />
we will learn how science provides explanations for both the<br />
odd and ordinary.<br />
The Egyptian Experience – Peg Kolsrud<br />
“Walk like an Egyptian” into the Land of the Nile, pharaohs<br />
and queens. Build a clay sarcophagus with a mummy<br />
inside, learn about canopic jars . . . YUK! Make your own<br />
gold cartouche, a falcon amulet and write hieroglyphics on<br />
papyrus. Find out what King Tut’s tomb and the University of<br />
Wyoming have in common.<br />
The Monster Mash – Abi Paytoe Gbayee<br />
MONSTERS, MONSTERS, MONSTERS! We will make all<br />
sorts of monsters – ink monsters, pillow monsters, monsters<br />
to wear, monsters to eat and many more monsters!!!! This<br />
course will be a fun exploration of a variety of materials and<br />
processes all while making monsters!<br />
The Sport of Fencing – Derek Nissen<br />
Fencing was one of the original sports of the modern<br />
Olympics. Have you ever wanted to learn sword fighting This<br />
class will teach students the basics of the sport of fencing.<br />
Students will learn the proper method and rules for use of the<br />
foil. The foil was the traditional training weapon for fencers.<br />
Students will be taught the proper method and have the<br />
opportunity to bout by the end of the week.<br />
Tin Can Robots – Ed Olson<br />
Have you ever wanted to create your own robot In this class<br />
you’ll get to explore how robots move in our world and what<br />
they might be like in the future. You’ll even get a chance to<br />
make your own tin can robot using your imagination and<br />
some easy-to-find recycled materials!<br />

What is life like under the sea Explore all the beautiful life<br />
in our oceans. We will make arts and crafts, play games, and<br />
have fun story time with puppets. We will enjoy salt water<br />
experiments and make fun ocean snacks. Dive in for some fun!<br />

Zome Tool Mania – Nicolette Roccaro<br />
The Golden Mean, The Golden Section, The Devine<br />
Proportion, Fibonnacci Numbers, what does it all mean<br />
Using tools similar in concept to Legos, students will play<br />
with Zome Tools to discover the mathematical concepts in<br />
nature, science, art and design. Zome tools are used by first<br />
graders, high school students and quantum physicists to<br />
build and explore models of bridges, DNA, atoms, bananas,<br />
soccer balls and more!
