1. The voting meeting of the <strong>Daniel</strong> <strong>Boone</strong> <strong>Board</strong> of <strong>School</strong> Directors was called to order by<br />
President Kevin F. McCullough at 7:30 p.m. with the following directors present:<br />
Andrew Basile, Margaret M. Fiset, Jo Ann M. Hartzell, Kevin F. McCullough,<br />
Scott L. Potts, Alan D. Ross, Michael D. Sheerer.<br />

Mr. McCullough announced that an Executive Session will be held immediately following<br />

7. Recognition for February<br />
Dr. Otto announced that several students and one service club organization would be<br />
recognized this evening.

Mrs. Traynor introduced our 2009-<strong>10</strong> Spelling Bee Champion – Alexandra Tran and<br />
Runner-Up – Megan Jolivette. Each of the girls shared their preparation for the Spelling<br />
Bee. Dr. Otto and Mr. McCullough presented them with a certification of recognition and<br />
congratulated them on behalf of the <strong>School</strong> <strong>Board</strong>. The Berks County Bee will be held on<br />
March 8, 20<strong>10</strong>l<br />
Mrs. Traynor announced that Maria Levandoski recently won the Reading Symphony<br />
Orchestra’s Youth Concerto Competition and will be performing with the orchestra in the<br />
near future. Dr. Otto and Mr. McCullough presented Maria with a certificate of<br />
recognition and congratulated her on her accomplishment.<br />
Mrs. Traynor shared information on two Junior Achievement Billboard’s that pictured two<br />
of our students – John Johnston and Arian Cook. Both of the students were unable to<br />
attend the meeting, but Mrs. Traynor spoke about the process of the students being chosen<br />
to be featured on the billboards. Dr. Otto and Mr. McCullough recognized each of the<br />
students and offered congratulations to them.<br />
Mrs. Traynor and Dr. Otto, along with Mr. McCullough presented the <strong>Daniel</strong> <strong>Boone</strong> Key<br />
Club with a Service Award from Amity Township. Club Officers Rachel Gullians and<br />
Cheyenne Cazubon accepted the award and explained the service project (leaf raking for<br />
any community members who needed assistance). Congratulations to all of the <strong>Daniel</strong><br />
<strong>Boone</strong> Key Club Members for this wonderful project.<br />
The last recognition was presented to Nicholas Douglas, a recent Eagle Scout Recipient.<br />
Nicholas explained his project – re-furbishing the trail around the Animal Rescue League.<br />
He shared his detailed book for <strong>Board</strong> members to review. Congratulations were offered<br />
from Dr. Otto and Mr. McCullough and a certification of recognition was presented.<br />
At this time a special presentation to the <strong>School</strong> <strong>Board</strong> and <strong>District</strong> was presented by the<br />
Amity A.C. organization. A picture plaque representing all of the different teams<br />
sponsored by the Amity A.C. and a special thank you for the use of our district<br />
buildings/gyms, etc. to make this program work for many youth of our community was<br />
presented by Mr. Bob Smith. Dr. Otto accepted the plaque and thanked the Amity A.C.<br />
organization.<br />

A. It was moved by Mr. Sheerer, seconded by Mr. Ross that the <strong>Board</strong> of Directors<br />
approve the minutes of the January 11, 20<strong>10</strong> Voting Meeting and the January 25, 20<strong>10</strong><br />
<strong>School</strong> <strong>Board</strong> Meeting.<br />

A. Secretary’s Correspondence – No Report<br />
B. Berks County Intermediate Unit – Mrs. Hartzell noted that handouts were at each <strong>Board</strong><br />
Member’s seat and any questions could be directed to her.<br />
C. Berks Career and Technology Center – Mr. Sheerer reported on routine approvals that<br />
included permission for a local firm to rent a cell tower that is on the BCTC property.<br />
The BCTC continues to work on the error with Berks <strong>School</strong> districts concerning<br />
over-payments and under-payments. The BCTC has entered into the Health Care<br />
Consortium. <strong>Board</strong> members would now like the meeting notes to be sent to them<br />
electronically.<br />
D. Student Government Report – (reports are given in January and May)<br />
E. Legislative Report – No Report.<br />
F. Other Reports – Mr. Basile reported that the Revenue Enhancement Committee met<br />
recently and discussed merchandising of school items, alumni contacts and using our<br />
Website concerning (requests for proposals) for advertising.

A. It was moved by Mrs. Fiset, seconded by Mr. Sheerer that the <strong>Board</strong> of Directors<br />
approve the Municipal Improvements Agreement with Union Township and RBC<br />
Capital Markets, regarding the High <strong>School</strong> Stadium Renovation project, as presented<br />
by the solicitor and subject to approval by the district administration and solicitor.<br />

– Elementary.<br />

B. The <strong>Board</strong> heard the following first readings/acknowledgements of new<br />

Mr. Basile asked questions on tax appeals from the county.<br />
17. New Business<br />
Mr. Michael Sheerer read a letter stating his resignation from the <strong>School</strong> <strong>Board</strong> effective<br />
April 30, 20<strong>10</strong>. His reason was that his company is moving out of the state. All <strong>Board</strong><br />
members thanked him for his service on the <strong>Board</strong> and noted he will be sorely missed.<br />
Dr. Otto also thanked Mr. Sheerer for his service to the district and noted that he will be<br />
missed on the <strong>Board</strong>.<br />
Dr. Otto made an announcement and noted at this difficult time that with his evaluation<br />
he will forego any adjustment to his salary for the 20<strong>10</strong>-11 school year.<br />
18. Presentation by Public on Issues<br />
Perry Templin, Union Township – he recognized Junior Achievement for their wonderful<br />
programs with students. He also spoke briefly about a Special Needs Class.<br />
Thomas Schadt, Birdsboro – thanked Mr. Sheerer for his contributions to the <strong>Daniel</strong><br />
<strong>Boone</strong> <strong>Area</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> as a <strong>Board</strong> member. He also asked the status of bids for<br />
the new High <strong>School</strong> Stadium project. His last question was the final millage on the<br />
Prelimary Budget that was recently approved.

19. At 8:20 p.m. Mr. Sheerer moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Mrs. Hartzell<br />
and approved by all directors present.<br />
