League
year filled with
a c c o m p l i s h -
ments. All levels
of membership can take great
pride in this year’s efforts to move
the League forward.
I really want to thank the 2008-2009
Board for their passion and commitment
to this organization. They addressed
some tough topics and
never lost sight of the mission in
their leadership. I want you to know
that they listened to what you had to
say, took it to heart, and brought it
before the Board for discussion.
You were represented by the best
leaders—ladies who had a servant’s
heart. Thank you Amy, Bonnie,
Adriana, Katherine, Alissa, Sandra,
Jennifer, Becca, Wendy, Kelly,
Karen, Veronica, and Michelle. I
want to extend my never ending
gratitude to the best Sustaining Advisors
a Board (and President) could
have—Shannon and Sue. You always
kept us focused on the mission.
Your passion for the League is noting
short of inspiring.
Congratulations to our League Award
winners. Each of you serve as an
example of what is best about the
Junior League of Corpus Christi.
Thank you Shannon, Katia, and Laurie
for sharing your time and talents
with the League.
Thank you to all the wonderful sustainers
who served as a sustaining
advisor. Your wisdom and knowledge
is invaluable to the League.
Thank you Barbara Baker. You are
an awesome office manager. Thank
you for keeping me on track with
deadlines, keeping me informed,
and above all, making sure I kept
moving forward.
One last thank you—thank you to my
husband, Stephen, and my children,
Lesly, Hattie, and Berkey. For almost
two years my husband was a
“League widow” as I attended meetings,
answered phone calls, and read
or responded to almost a 1,000
emails a month. Make sure you kiss
your loved ones when you read this
to let them know how much their
support means to you. And please,
on behalf of the Junior League, let
them know how much their
“sacrifice” is appreciated.
Since joining the League in 1994 as a
provisional member, I have made a
few observations through the years.
One such observation is the League
is like a roller coaster ride. It is
filled with sharp turns, steep hills,
and thrilling (and sometimes scary)
dips and drops, but it always stays
on track and it always moves forward.
When you receive this newsletter,
the transition will be complete
as some of us are getting off
this roller coaster ride, others are
changing seats, and new ladies are
getting on for the first their first
ride.
I know that the next roller coaster
ride will be equally exciting and the
Junior League of Corpus Christ will
continue to stay on track and stay
true to its mission. I wish the incoming
leadership and the membership
best wishes on the upcoming
year. I know you will do great
things. After all, we are the Junior
League of Corpus Christi.
It was an honor being your President.

08-09 PROVISIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Our goal this year was to prepare a group of women who had a keen interest in learning more
about our organization. They made a commitment and met their requirements.
We have shared with them our mission statement; trained them to use the JLCC website; understand
the structure of our organization and council system; introduced them to board members,
sustaining members; ensured they learned more about our projects and fundraisers; guided them
through their ways & means obligations for funding and community events; educated them on
the issue of childhood obesity at Christus Spohn Hospital; explored the past JL projects by having
a scavenger hunt to see how the JLCC has impacted our community; empowered them to develop
game activities for the fairy tale festival; we observed them expand their experiences by serving
on project committees that greatly impacted our efforts with the Habitat for Humanity home;
KIK event, Cinderella’s Closet and PATCH. Through out the year we’ve enjoyed getting to know
each other and share in how our mission is reflected in everything JLCC does. But most of all we
each had an opportunity to inspire their passion to serve the league and our community. It’s
been an honor and a privilege to lead and serve these outstanding NEW MEMBERS OF THE
JUNIOR LEAGUE OF CORPUS CHRISTI!

Our May General Meeting
was a great finish to a great
year. We were able to celebrate
the accomplishments of
the past year and look forward
to the new league year
to come. Awards were presented
to those in the league
that have gone above and beyond
as well as to our community
partners who assist us with our mission.
It was a time to laugh with
friends and applaud
the efforts of the many
talented ladies that
make up the Junior
League of Corpus
Christi!

PATCH/Ritz Theater Revitalization
For our final project this year, Helping Hands partnered with
PATCH to help with the Ritz Theater Revitalization.
The goal was to clean out the second floor of the theater while trying
to preserve any historical items. The first dumpster was full by the
second hour of work! League members and many wonderful league
husbands worked for hours while wearing masks and pulling out
years of debris. Although it was very dirty and strenuous work, everyone
had a GREAT time. After league members finished the first
floor they continued to the filming room and
stage. PATCH board members were amazed when
we went well beyond the plan for the project. The
time and man power that we gave to PATCH is
invaluable. It is through sheer numbers and great
teamwork that our work with PATCH made such a
difference for the Ritz Theater.
WAY TO FINISH STRONG!
HELP JLCC WIN $500
As part of the new AJLI.org website launch, AJLI has announced an official challenge to get
League members enrolled for the Members Area portion of the new website.
The Junior League Surf Challenge is a contest to encourage all AJLI members to join the website
and increase web exposure. All Leagues will benefit by participating in the challenge by discovering
what the new site has to offer!
The contest launched on February 1, 2009 and extends through June 15, 2009. All 293 Leagues will be competing to
enroll League members on the new AJLI.org, and the three Leagues with the most effective enrollment drives win a
$500 stipend , courtesy of Digital Cheetah, and inclusion in a cover story in the Summer 2009 issue of Connected.
Leagues should not miss out on this exciting opportunity! Not only could your entire League benefit from enrolling
on the new website, but your League could also win a great prize and get noticed by all 292 Leagues
in Connected and crowned the official Junior League "Surfers!"
Note that members currently enrolled on AJLI.org will rollover to the new site automatically. Let's go surfing!

Little Leaguers Group for Actives
and Sustainers
Are you ready for some summer fun Once a month, a
Little Leaguers get-together will take place somewhere
in the city. The time and place will be on the
JLCC event calendar and sent via Newsday Tuesday.
Alissa Worley and Wendy Batek will serve as the organizers;
however, recommendations on locations are
always welcome. Members (actives and sustainers)
with children including grandchildren, nieces, and
nephews are welcome to come and enjoy a play date
with other League members and little leaguers. The
first get-together will take place in June and more
information will follow next month. Contact Alissa or
Wendy if you have any questions.
Ready to update your profile
Then head on over to the league office on Thursday, June 4th at 5:15 pm to take
your picture for the JLCC 2009-2010 directory! Photographer Buddy Glisson and
his daughter Marie will be onsite to take all provisional pictures and any active or
sustainer that would like to update their picture for the directory. If you have any
