exams. Jennifer Gray<br />
successfully defended her<br />
dissertation <strong>and</strong> graduated.<br />
Jason Martin is beginning<br />
his second year in the<br />
doctoral program.<br />
In<br />
addition<br />
to the college<br />
graduate<br />
faculty, there<br />
are six additional<br />
graduate faculty<br />
who have a secondary<br />
appointment in our college.<br />
Four <strong>of</strong> the six are<br />
Full Secondary Graduate<br />
Faculty members <strong>and</strong> the<br />
remaining two are Associate<br />
Secondary Graduate Faculty<br />
Members. We also have six<br />
emeriti graduate faculty<br />
members (Dr. Applegate, Dr.<br />
Baseheart, Dr. Bostrom, Dr.<br />
Donohew, Dr. Moore, <strong>and</strong><br />
Dr. Rush) that together<br />
helped to create the graduate<br />
program we enjoy today.<br />
Staff<br />
Louise Menifee is the<br />
program’s staff assistant.<br />
She has been with the program<br />
for fifteen years.<br />
Program Events<br />
The fall semester began with<br />
a new student orientation<br />
<strong>and</strong> the annual Graduate<br />
Student Association picnic.<br />
In place <strong>of</strong> a retreat, graduate<br />
students met in October to<br />
discuss strategies for improving<br />
the process <strong>of</strong> graduate<br />
comprehensive <strong>and</strong> qualifying<br />
exams.<br />
The Graduate<br />
Student<br />
Colloquium was<br />
held in November.<br />
Dr. Joe Walther<br />
from Michigan<br />
State University<br />
presented a program<br />
titled, “The<br />
Past, Present, <strong>and</strong><br />
Future <strong>of</strong><br />
Computer<br />
Mediated<br />
<strong>Communication</strong><br />
Research.<br />
The 12th annual<br />
Graduate Student<br />
Association Symposium was<br />
held at the Crowne Plaza/<br />
Campbell House in Lexington<br />
on Saturday, March 1, 2008.<br />
The theme <strong>of</strong> the symposium<br />
was “<strong>Communication</strong> in<br />
Context” <strong>and</strong> the keynote<br />
address was delivered by Dr.<br />
Laura Stafford (The Ohio<br />
State University). We are also<br />
pleased to announce that Dr.<br />
Stafford will be joining our<br />
faculty in the fall as a full<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essor with tenure!<br />
We celebrated the end <strong>of</strong><br />
another successful year with a<br />
lovely Saturday afternoon picnic<br />
hosted by Caitlin Dixon<br />
who is a master’s student in<br />
our program <strong>and</strong> is chair <strong>of</strong><br />
the social committee.<br />
Kelly Cowden <strong>and</strong> Laura Coleman<br />
both master’s students are at work<br />
in the Graduate Seminar Room.<br />
