PROGRAM
Dr. James Kessler, the new chairman of the Pankey Institute’s Department
of Education will present our 5th continuing dental education
collaboration. Dr. Kessler will explore Dr. L.D. Pankey’s philosophy as
it relates to the practice of restorative dentistry today. Join us for this
thought-provoking and enlightening program.
THE SPEAKER
Dr. James C. Kessler, former
chair of the Division of Restorative
Dentistry at the University of Oklahoma,
has been named the new
chairman of the Pankey Institute’s
Department of Education. He will
begin his appointment in January
2011, succeeding Dr. Irwin Becker.
Dr. Kessler earned his DDS degree
from the University of Oklahoma
College of Dentistry in 1977. He
entered practice as an associate
and taught part time in the
department of endodontics at OU,
as well as teaching in the general
practice residency at Children’s
Memorial Hospital. When offered
a position to teach full time in the
Department of Fixed Prosthodontics,
he joined the faculty and
taught for the next seven years
attaining the rank of associate
professor. Continuing his career
in academics, he accepted an
appointment at the Medical University
of South Carolina College
of Dental Medicine as an associate
professor in the crown and bridge
department. While there, he taught
advanced laboratory techniques,
ceramics, fi xed prosthodontics,
and occlusion. After 10 years
in dental education, Dr. Kessler
transitioned into private practice in
Tulsa, Okla., where he remained

for the next 18 years. He continued
to remain active in teaching.
In addition, he was active in three
study clubs, including the Tulsa
Seattle Study Club. In 2007, he
was presented an opportunity to
return to dental education. He was
named the Herbert T. Shillingburg
Professor of Fixed Prosthodontics
and chair of the Division of Restorative
Dentistry at the University of
Oklahoma College of Dentistry. Dr.
Kessler co-authored a textbook
with Dr. Herbert T. Shillingburg,
has been a contributor to other
textbooks, as well as published
articles in the dental literature. He
has presented more than 300 lectures
to dental and dental laboratory
groups, residencies, and study
clubs across the United States,
Canada, Europe, and parts of
Asia. He is a member of the ADA,
American Academy of Restorative
Dentistry, American College of
Dentists, Pierre Fauchard Academy,
Academy of General Dentistry,
and Southwest Academy of
Restorative Dentistry. He was the
2004 President of the American
Academy of Restorative Dentistry,
currently serves on its foundation
and fi nance committees, and has
provided the academy with more
than 20 years of service.

PROGRAM
The 28th Edition of the Annual Dental Review will be held at the
beautiful Embassy Suites Resort at Kingston Plantation, and should
prove to be a great update for the general dentist. This year’s program
will feature a broad potpourri of practical topics, highlighted by an
excellent line-up of speakers including Dr. Robert Lowe, our featured
speaker, as well as guest speakers, Drs. Larry Holt and Gavin Heymann,
along with noted faculty from UNC. Day 1 will feature Dr. Gavin
Heymann with a very insightful orthodontic review for the general practitioner,
followed by “bread and butter” restorative topics for the “wetfi
ngered” dentist presented by Drs. Ed Swift and Harald Heymann.
The program on Day 2 will be presented by our featured speaker,
Dr. Robert Lowe. Dr. Lowe is widely known for his practical presentations
on clinically relevant topics in restorative dentistry. He maintains
a private practice in Charlotte, NC, largely devoted to esthetic
dentistry. Dr. Lowe has lectured widely and has received the Gordon
J. Christensen Award for excellence as a CE speaker. Dr. Lowe will be
addressing “clinical solutions to practical problems,” as well as “practical
approaches to surgical tissue management.”
Day 3 will include excellent presentations from guest speaker,
Dr. Larry Holt as well as a time-proven favorite, Dr. Terry Donovan. Dr.
Holt will address “records and planning for implant-based treatment,”
while Dr. Donovan will present vital information on the successful
restoration of endodontically treated teeth. Get the facts based on
research, not opinion and hype! This year’s Annual Dental Review
