Dr. Heymann is a Past-President of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry. He is Co-Editor of The Art and Science of Operative Dentistry and is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry. Dr. David Felton is a recipient of UNC’s Richard F. Hunt Award for Teaching Excellence. He is a graduate of the UNC School of Dentistry and past chair of the Department of Prosthodontics where he is a Professor. In addition, Dr. Felton is a Past-President and a fellow of the American College of Prosthodontics and is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Prosthodontics. Educational Theory and Strategies for Dental Radiology Educators PROGRAM This course is designed to discuss educational theory and methodology for dental radiology educators. Topics that will be covered include motivation, assessment, adult learning, teaching today’s students, learning and teaching styles, and classroom, pre-clinical and clinical teaching as well as integrating classroom concepts into the clinic. July 20 – 22 15 Carolina Oral Pathology Institute 2011 PROGRAM The 5th annual Carolina Oral Pathology Institute will provide dentists, dental hygienists and dental assistants who teach oral pathology with an update in the recognition and management of oral pathologic lesions. Using case study, lecture and participatory approaches, the Institute faculty under the direction of Dr. Alice Curran will provide informative and interactive presentations designed to challenge participants in a relaxed atmosphere. Past participants have enjoyed this opportunity to network with other faculty in their fi eld. In 2011, topics will include Odontogenic Cysts and Neoplasms, Oral Manifestations of Infectious Diseases, Developmental Disorders Affecting the Head and Neck, Clinical Differential Diagnosis Exercises using Audience Response Technology, Enhancing Oral Presentations for the Classroom and more. Participants will learn to integrate oral pathology classroom material with clinical practice. For educators, emphasis will be placed on oral pathology content of importance for board and certifi cation exams. I will see you next year.” – Mario Conte, St. Louis MO THE SPEAKERS Dr. Alice Curran is the Oral Pathology Institute’s Director and an Associate Professor in the Dept of Diagnostic Sciences and General Dentistry, Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, at the UNC School Of Dentistry. She works in dental school’s Pathology Biopsy service and sees patients on consultation. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. She serves on the Review Committee for Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology for the Commission of Dental Accreditation and is the Councilor for the Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Section of the American Dental Education Association. She earned her DDS from the University Of Kentucky College Of Dentistry and received her certifi cate in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. Prior to coming to UNC, she was a faculty member at the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry. Dr. Sandra L. Myers is an Associate Professor in the Department of Diagnostic and Biological Sciences at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. She earned her DMD and certifi cate in Oral Pathology from the Oregon Health Sciences University School of Dentistry. Dr. Jennifer Webster-Cyriaque is an Associate Professor in the Department of Dental Ecology at the UNC School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill. She received her DDS from the State University of New York in 1992. Then went on to earn her GPR certifi cate and PhD in Microbiology & Immunology from UNC in 1998.
