1. Recognize different types of adhesive and composite systems
available in the market.
2. Understand the various characteristics of available systems.
3. Select these materials according to these characteristics and their
various clinical applications.
4. Use adhesives and composites with success in the esthetic
and conservative restoration of anterior teeth with attention to
the following technical items: case selection, shade matching,
conservative tooth preparation, custom matrix (lingual matrix),
bonding, composite application (layering), fi nishing, and polishing.

Director, and Director of Clinical Research in the Department of
Operative Dentistry at the UNC School of Dentistry.
