Instruments used in these laboratories include atomic absorption spectrophotometers, alpha, beta and gamma counting systems, fluorescence spectrophotometer, UV-VIS spectrophotometers, organic carbon analyzer, and polarographic analyzer. Initiate, negotiate, acquire and manage external funding for research projects. Establish the chemical oceanography section at Old Dominion University. Design a time-series study and help maintain the time-series station in the South China Sea for the National Center for Ocean Research, Taipei, Taiwan. Design and carry out field sampling and laboratory analytical programs for lacustrine, estuarine and marine sediments, surface water, ground water, seawater from both open oceans and the coastal seas, and atmospheric samples. Plan and lead oceanographic research cruises. Establish physical, chemical and biological hydrography laboratory. Supervise some combinations of graduate students (at MS and Ph.D. levels), post-doctoral fellows
