President’s Letter
Dear Junior League of Greater Covington
Members:
It is my pleasure to welcome you as
Junior League of Greater Covington embarks
on a new year of working together as women
building better communities. I am humbled
and honored to serve as your President and
look forward to JLGC continuing the good
works and touching lives in our community
through our League projects and activities.
Over the summer, our head volunteers and
committee heads have planned an exciting
and busy year; these ladies unselfishly dedicate
many hours of service to our league. I
look forward to working with you and hope
that you will enjoy the time you share with
JLGC.
We, as women for lasting change,
are privileged to support numerous community
projects and will continue to move our
mission of voluntarism forward through our
many endeavors - promoting childhood literacy
with Read for the Record, volunteering at
New Heights, and focusing on health issues
with our Annual Spring Stomp 5K and Fun
Run. Our Career Corner committee will
again help women in necessitous circumstances
transition into the workforce with

high school girls in financial need with dresses,
shoes and accessories. JLGC members
will again partner with Children’s Museum in
working toward our signature project, the
future Children's Museum of St. Tammany,
and will continue the outreach through our
JLGC’s Museum Without Walls. Proceeds
from Polo and sales for our Tabasco Award
Winning Roux to Do cookbook allow JLGC to
fund our community projects.
The Board Retreat, held in July, was
a great success. Your board is committed to a
League year of servant leadership to our
league members. Please know that you, as a
Junior League member and volunteer, are
making a difference in St. Tammany Parish.
Please let me now if there is anything I can
do to make your league year better. Individually,
we are all unique, but together we are a
powerful group of women working for lasting
change in our community. My wish for you is
for fulfilling, meaningful and enjoyable experiences
during this 2012-2013 Junior League
year. Welcome aboard!

The October election is just around the corner and the nominating committee must prepare the slate for the
following positions:
President Elect-Elect
Community Assistant VP
Fund Development Assistant VP
Please read your directory or the JLGC documents on www.jlgc.net, for the job descriptions of each position. If
you are interested in applying for a position, or if you would like to nominate someone else, you can find the
applications and nomination forms on the JLGC web site. Both forms may be sent via e-mail or U.S. Postal
service to Rochelle Heap, Nominating Committee Chairperson at 907 Comanche Drive, Abita Springs, LA
70420.
The deadline for all applications is September 4, 2012. Interviews will be conducted by the Nominating
Committee on September 29, 2012. We will provide one make-up interview date in the near future. Please
check the JLGC website for updated information and instructions.

News from Harvest Cup Polo Classic
We are pleased to announce that Harvest Cup Polo 2012 is full
steam ahead! Huge congratulations to our poster artist this year,
Mary deSilva. She is a self-taught Louisiana artist. She is a free
lance acrylic paint teacher and she stresses “art as therapy.”
Some Polo dates to remember! The Inside Northside “Meet the
Artists of Polo” event will be September 12th at Champagne
Beverage Warehouse in Goodbee, Louisiana. Artist
Michalopoulos will be there! His piece “Scene at 10:15” will be one
of the live auction items. THE BIG DAY is on Sunday, October
21st! Mark those calendars! Tickets go on sale mid-August.
We are also very honored to announce our COMMUNITY
PARTNERS! A huge kudos and thank you extended out to the
people of Dunavant Wealth Management Group, United Way, Lee
Michaels, Inside Northside, and Champagne Beverage Co. Get
those polo hats ready, ladies! It’s going to be a GREAT year!

We encourage all members of the JLGC to
join. Go to www.facebook.com, and using
your email, you can create a password and
start your new account...it is free for everyone!
In the search field, type in “Junior
League of Greater Covington” and join the
group! Facebook is a great marketing and
advertising tool for our league, and we use it
to spread the word about our mission and
purpose. Once you have joined our group,
you can participate in the discussion board
and display messages on the wall about upcoming
events, meetings, etc. associated with
JLGC. We can even post pictures here! We
look forward to seeing you on facebook!
In compiling the most recent directory,
I have noticed that we are missing
many headshots / pictures for our
membership. In an effort for our
membership to put a face with a name.
I am requesting the following from our
members who do not have a picture in

During the year, our membership will have many events that effect their lives. If you know of anyone who experiences
having a baby, becoming engaged, getting married, a death in the family, or something that should be
acknowledged by the JLGC, please send notice to Cyndi Bellina, Corresponding Secretary,
cyndibel986473@aol.com. The information should contain the member’s name, date of event, what occurred,
and any other particulars for acknowledgement in a written note to the member. It is asked that the data be
timely submitted for a note to be written to the member.
