Mark J. Ott, MD Medical Director, Surgical Services Clinical Program, Intermountain Healthcare Chairman, Department of Surgery, Intermountain Medical Center Adjunct Associate Professor, Department of Surgery, University of Utah School of Medicine Dr. Ott received his medical degree from the University of Utah School of Medicine. He trained in general surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Subsequently he completed a Society of Surgical Oncology fellowship also at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He practiced surgical oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital and was a faculty member of the Harvard School of Medicine prior to being recruited to Intermountain Healthcare. In addition to his administrative, leadership, and educational responsibilities he is also a practicing surgical oncologist specializing in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic tumors, Sarcoma and, as well as complex upper gastrointestinal surgery and other rare tumors. His leadership interests center on getting physician/surgeons to participate in clinical program building and outcomes analysis and research. He serves as the physician champion for Intermountain Medical Center’s participation in the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program. He also has a strong interest in workplace wellness and serves as a Board Member for the Wellness Councils of America (WELCOA). Lucy A. Savitz, MBA, PhD joined Intermountain Healthcare in 2005 as a Senior Scientist. In 2012 she became the Director of Research and Education for the Institute for Healthcare Delivery Research. Before joining Intermountain, Dr. Savitz was a senior Associate at Abt Associates, Inc. in Durham, North Carolina. Previous to this position, she was a Senior health Services Researcher with RTI International, Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Dr. Savitz currently holds faculty appointments at the University of Utah School of Medicine, teaching Pediatrics, Family & Preventive Medicine, and Clinical Epidemiology. Dr. Savitz recieved her undergrad degree in Finance from the University of Denver. She continued her education at the University of Denver, receiving her Masters of Business Administration. Dr. Savitz recieved her Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of North Carolina. Dr. Savitz has been a member of many research panels for non-profit and government agencies. She has also held multiple instructing positions. Steven A. VanNorman, MD is the Chief Medical Officer of the Southwest Region of Intermountain Healthcare. In this role, he provides leadership for process improvement projects in small, medium, and large community hospitals. Many of these have produced improved outcomes while lowering costs. He attended medical school at University of Michigan followed by residency at University of Iowa. Patrick R. Veillette, PhD is an award-winning researcher in the field of preventing human error in high risk environments. He has provided consulting and legal testimony on systems safety and human factors engineering to national and international regulatory agencies, multinational corporations and industry trade groups, to include the U.S. General Accounting Office, NASA, Air Force Scientific Advisory Board, Department of Homeland Security, major airlines and elite military units. Dr. Veillette has authored more than 200 reports which have garnered distinguished awards from the National Research Council, Royal Aeronautical Society, and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Dr. Veillette is a member of the prestigious Aviation Week and Space Technology editorial team and is an editorial board member of the Journal of Human Performance in Extreme Environments. Dr. Veillette is a 1983 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy where he earned a B.S. degree with Distinction in Aeronautical Engineering and subsequently earned M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in engineering. As a well-recognized author and researcher, Pat has appeared in numerous television documentaries, radio shows and in major newspaper and trade journals, including the Discovery Channel, the British Broadcasting Corporation, National Public Radio, Air & Space, and USA Today. When not involved in writing and research, Dr. Veillette is a Non-Routine Flight Operations captain in business jets and is one of the few American pilots certified in every category of aircraft. Brent E. Wallace, MD is the chief medical officer of Intermountain Healthcare. He is responsible for overseeing physician relations and medical affairs, coordination of the hospital-based clinical programs and clinical services, supervising post-graduate medical education, physician leadership for design of clinical information system, overseeing continuing medical education, research, physician contracting, medical consultant for risk management, clinical oversight of Life Flight (air transport system) and emergency preparedness. He has practiced family medicine for 26 years in Roy, Utah. He has served as Medical Director for Intermountain Home Care as well as several nursing homes. From 2001-2005 he was the chair of the Intermountain Medical Group Board. He has also held other leadership positions such as President of the medical staff and Chief of the Family Practice Department at McKay-Dee Hospital. Dr. Wallace received his medical degree from the University of Utah and completed his family practice residency at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah. He is board certified in Family Practice. Ashley Yeats, MD, FACEP, FCFPC(EM) attended medical school in Canada at the University of Western Ontario, completing a residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Ottawa in 1991, where he became an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine and an active participant in the research group of Dr. Ian Stiell at The Ottawa Hospital & Loeb Research Institute. He was the founding Director and COO of the Orleans Urgent Care Centre in Canada’s Capital Region, prior to becoming Assistant Professor at Tuft’s University School of Medicine and holding a variety of hospital leadership positions at Brigham & Women’s/Faulkner Hospital in Boston. He joined the Harvard Medical Faculty Physician leadership team as Assistant Chief of Emergency Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Milton in 2010, with expertise in urgent care development & patient flow, serving as an advisor to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health ED Boarding & Crowding Task Force and serving on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts College of Emergency Physicians. He is a graduate of the Intermountain Healthcare Advanced Training Program in Health Care Delivery Improvement, where he obtained certification as a patient safety officer in 2011. He has spoken internationally on quality improvement theory and on building a quality organization. Dr. Yeats currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer of Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Milton, leading quality and process improvement initiatives in association with the Silverman Institute for Health Care Quality and Safety.
