BCD MU members had a fun filled and
brain-teasing afternoon at the Thresher Rooms
on Shrove Tuesday. Phil firstly challenged us to
come up with the various names used to describe
the day before Ash Wednesday. He then treated
us to explanations for the reasoning behind having
pancakes at this time, and led discussion on the
various worldwide customs of celebrating the
preparation for Easter.
This was followed by cooking and eating
pancakes, making Mardi-Gras masks, decorating
bags with painted prints to sell in aid of a church
parachute, making gift cards, and completing
Phil’s challenging word search and Lenten quizzes.
Members then contributed towards a Branch gift
for the MU “make a mother’s day” appeal.
Finally, we were invited to take home a Lenten
Calendar, which is on the 2008 theme: Time for
Relationships. Each day has a suitable suggested
activity or thought.
Our next meeting is at St Peter’s Curdridge, on
Tuesday March 4 th , at 2pm, when our speaker will
be Margaret Symonds. Margaret will be speaking
on our theme for 2008: Time For Relationships.
All welcome.
