Curdridge Parish Council
REPORT FROM THE CURDRIDGE PARISH COUNCIL MEETING HELD ON 17th JAN 2008.
Local Development Framework meeting was attended by Scott McDermott, Kevan Bundell and Marianne Small. Options
have been presented and it is now out for consultation. Hedge End/Eastleigh is a Strategic Development Area
and Durley is concerned that there will be 6000 houses in that area. Implications for Curdridge - there is a proposal
to expand Whiteley and Knowle and an additional 1000 houses in Bishops Waltham. This will mean increased
traffic. If the Whiteley option is chosen this may lead to the building of the Whiteley Way and the Botley Relief
Road. Scott and Marianne said the group they were in were particularly concerned with the lack of infrastructure.
PUSH – is now an informal group and Winchester feel they are better being part of the group. There was a strong
presence from Durley, Curdridge and Upham. Councillor George Beckitt will speak to Head of Transport and will ask
at the next PUSH meeting about the status of the Botley Relief Road. Robert Humby felt that Winchester will demand
it should go ahead. Robert was thanked for his efforts.
Household Waste Recycling Centre - there will be new trade waste controls in force from February. A commercial
vehicle that is privately owned can go to the tip with a licence 12 times a year. There was a concern that this may lead
to more fly tipping but Roger Humby (District Councillor) pointed out that it may be the reverse because at present
homeowners who only have a van cannot go to the tip but in future they can apply for a licence and go 12 times a year.
Footpath 7 – Woodview Park - The Council had written to the Jenkyns Estate asking for permission to put down a
board-walk on the footpath at the Council’s expense. However the reply was that they would not sanction the
provision of a board walk. It will be pointed out that people use the footpath to go to the station, the public house or
the shop at the petrol station. We will ask them for suggestions on how to make it more “user friendly”. One of the
problems is that there are no ditches and no drainage off the path.
Recreation Ground – a second quote has been obtained for drainage. Mr Barker pointed out that it was recommended
by Mr Aust (Winchester City Council) that they look at drainage from the Skinners field into the drain in Reading
Room Lane. It was then thought that the drainage to the Recreation Ground would improve. We will ask Mark Gregory
(Reading Room Manager) to obtain a quote along the lines of the recommendations of Mr Aust.
Open Space Strategy 2008/9 - The Open Space funding will continue for the next year but once the new system is in
place it is doubtful whether the funds collected from developers will be able to be carried over and may have to
be returned to developers. They have asked what outdoor, public childrens play or sports facilities the council
proposes to install or improve in the next financial year and they will be notified that it is intended to improve the
drainage at the Allotment Recreation Field and the field above the Recreation Ground. The Council is also planning to
put in a footpath at the Allotment Recreation Ground linking the two roads and providing a kissing gate either end.
Bus Shelter – The clerk has heard from Winchester City that they will need a plan and an agreement drawn up for the
bus shelter. We also need permission to put the shelter adjoining the highway and HCC and WCC have not been able
to agree who gives permission for this. Robert Humby and Peter Mason will both make enquiries.
Mr Mason said he is having great difficulty getting any response out of the County Highways department. He had noticed
potholes in Harfields Hill and will report them to Highways. Mrs Small said there are several other similar pot
holes and a list will be sent to Peter Mason.
Cemetery - the ground is very wet and it was not clear if the drainage from the car park is flowing into the ditch and it
was agreed to get Swanwick Construction to look at it to see if it needs clearing or if anything can be done to improve
it. There has been an offer by the Short family to construct a memorial garden and wall under the oak tree. A brief plan
was shown to the Council and it was agreed in principle that this would be allowed subject to the council seeing final
plans and agreeing materials.
Planning – decisions
dormer and two storey rear extension, detached double carport. Refused.
