Uniplex and Centennial Park
Promoting Recreation
for Over 30 Years!
No shortage of opportunities exist with a trip to the City of
Humboldt’s Recreational hot spot!
In addition to the winter venues, Elgar Peterson Arena & Curling
Rink, this location provides a vast array of seasonal and year-round
recreational opportunities. A large portion of Centennial Park is
devoted to five Baseball Diamonds and the recently constructed
Skateboard Park. In the middle of the grounds you will find the
Uniplex, Humboldt Collegiate Institute and Carlton Trail College
joint facility.
Home to the Mohawks, HCI offers a full range of high school sports
with a strong history of well rounded athletes, many of whom
have been recognized provincially and beyond. The facility’s new
gymnasium is also currently used for the City of Humboldt’s Drop-In
Sports Program (basketball, volleyball, badminton).
The Uniplex Aquatic Centre is one of the most popular locations
during the hot summer months, as well as year round.
The Uniplex is excited to open to the public the newly created
Humboldt Fitness Room. This joint venture between the City
students, teachers and the public alike. For rates and times contact
Community and Leisure Services or pick up a brochure the next
Joint Use Agreement
The City of Humboldt, Horizon School Division
No. 205 and the Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools
are proud to offer the City of Humboldt & Area a
facility Joint Use Agreement.
What does this mean for
the City of Humboldt
This agreement’s aim is to “maximize the use of
the parties’ facilities during non-peak periods,
to recognize that these facilities are a resource
to service the community, and to respond to the
reality that the cost of operating these facilities is
largely paid by the same taxpayer.” The agreement
allows organizations and the public to book school
gyms and rooms for events and meetings.
For more information or to place a booking contact
CLUB #4713/42
Public Speaking
Have No Fear!
Though its member club, Toastmasters International helps men and women learn the arts of speaking,
listening and thinking - vital skills that promote self-actualization, enhanced leadership potential, foster
human understanding and contribute to the betterment of mankind.
made noticeable improvements. The mission of a Toastmaster’s club is to provide a mutually supportive and
positive learning environment in which every individual member has the opportunity to develop oral comm
unication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth.
We’re Big Brothers Big Sisters.
We believe every child should have the opportunity to reach his or her full potential, both as
individuals and citizens – that by doing so, they will not only do well, they will also do good.
We believe that by changing the course of young lives we can in turn be changing the course of
a community’s future. That it could lead to a reduction in poverty and unemployment. Or to safer
schools and neighbourhoods. Or to a renewed optimism for growth. That it could even lead to
change on a broader, more far-reaching scale.
We believe that opening a child’s eyes to what is – opens their mind to what could be.
For nearly one hundred years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has been making a positive difference in the
lives of our nation’s youth by developing and implementing a wide range of mentoring programs.
One-to-one and group programs, for both in school and outside of school.
Serving as role models, our mentors teach by example the importance of giving and giving back, of
staying in school, and of having respect for family, peers and community. Each time we pair a child
with a mentor or introduce a group of students to an in-school program, we start something
incredible – a life-changing relationship built on friendship, trust and empowerment.
Witnessing the transformation of a child into a confident, concerned and motivated young person is
a remarkable thing. Ushering them into adulthood, seeing them grow into a successful, responsible
member of their community and society at large is even more satisfying. Proudly, it’s something our
staff, volunteers and donors help bring about every day, and we’re very grateful for their generosity
and support.
Whether it’s in the form of time or money there is no more important investment we as individuals
can make than in helping our nation’s children realize – and share – their full potential.
We’re Big Brothers Big Sisters, and we believe in the value and values of mentoring.
Temporary Exhibits 2013
April 1 – 23 Artless Fabrications: Carol Schmold
Seeing the fibre works as intimate extensions of the pages of her
journal, Schmold’s works explore various fibre art techniques and
approaches to image-making. The project began as a self-directed
challenge, motivated by the desire to get back in touch with her artistic
creativity, to explore new techniques in fibre art and discipline herself
to work within an imposed deadline. The result is a visual journal of
her exploration into her creative process, reflecting a personal design
aesthetic and sensibility to materials. This exhibit is sponsored by
Conexus and the Humboldt Area Arts Council, and travels the province
through the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils.
May – August “Hunter of the Prairie Sea”
“Hunter of the Prairie Sea” is a travelling exhibit organized by the Royal
Saskatchewan Museum. Featuring a 10-metre-long marine reptile called
a tylosaur, this exhibit aims to educate visitors on the discovery of the
tylosaur skeleton and reveal what the environment in Saskatchewan was over 70 million years ago.
Educational tour packages are available for these exhibits – please call the museum to book your tour!
