<strong>Humboldt</strong> & District<strong>Museum</strong> & GalleryTemporary Exhibits 2008-2009SaskTel – “Ahead by a Century” – September 9-27The <strong>Museum</strong> Association <strong>of</strong> Saskatchewan in partnership withSaskTel is proud to present the SaskTel Centennial Exhibit, incelebration <strong>of</strong> SaskTel’s 100 th Anniversary in 2008. You are invitedto the Opening Reception for this exhibit on September 11 from1:30 – 4:00 pm.We will also be displaying a myriad <strong>of</strong> styles, types and colours<strong>of</strong> phones. From wood to plastic, large to small – phones havechanged drastically over the years. These unique telephones fromlocal collectors will be on display from September 9 toNovember 15.Author Reading – Robert J. AdamsTuesday, September 9 at 7:30 pmRobert Adams was a member <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Humboldt</strong> detachment <strong>of</strong> the R.C.M.P in the early 1960s. Adam’s book, HorseCop, includes stories <strong>of</strong> his first posting in <strong>Humboldt</strong>.Wendy Parson and the Rural Roundel – October 1 -25Wendy Parson’s current body <strong>of</strong> work focuses on the dichotomy between the realities <strong>of</strong> contemporary farmingand the nostalgic reminiscences <strong>of</strong> a rural based population. Through a series <strong>of</strong> large, high and low reliefpaper clay wall sculptures, she is examining our attachment to farm animals and the land. This exhibit is proudlysponsored by Conexus and the <strong>Humboldt</strong> Area Visual Arts Committee. The exhibition travels throughout theprovince through the Organization <strong>of</strong> Saskatchewan Arts Council.Festival <strong>of</strong> Wreaths – November 13 – December 4The annual fundraiser is sponsored by the Friends <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Museum</strong>. We areoperated by a voluntary Board <strong>of</strong> Directors, many <strong>of</strong> whom have a disability or have a family member with a disability. We hadour humble beginnings in 1998 when a small group <strong>of</strong> determined parents gathered together with the common belief that lifecould be better for their sons and daughters.HASEP is funded by Canada Saskatchewan Career and Employment Services. We are designed to support individuals with disabilitiesor employment barriers with career and employment decisions and help support them to work in competitive employmentsettings. We are actively involved in other projects that promote the inclusion, involvement, and participation <strong>of</strong> people withdisabilities in community life. These other projects include Rosthern Employment Program (REP), Special Needs Respite CareProgram, Summer Program for Children and Youth with Special Needs, Enhanced Activity Worker Program, Training for JobsProgram, and Nutritional Cooking. Canada will be well represented with someSaskatchewan members.<strong>Humboldt</strong>’s own club has produced both North American and Canadianchampions. In fact we have had skaters at each <strong>of</strong> the Canadians for the past11 years. Last year two <strong>of</strong> our members, William Dutton and Nathan Bernhard,joined the National Development Team in Calgary. Also the club’s skaterscontinue to enjoy many successes in the local, provincial and inter-provincial meets.Over the last three years the club has coached a school program in co-operation with Speed Skate Canada to introducespeed skating to elementary students from St. Dominic and last year to St. Augustine.All speed skate rentals and skins (uniforms) are included in the $190 season fee (same price as lastyear). Ice times are Tuesday at 4:15 pm and Thursday (optional) mornings at the arena. Competitions are always onweekends. You can pick and choose which competition you want to enter throughout the season.Speed skating is both a team (relays) and an individual sport. Skaters can compete indoors and/or outdoors at locallevel, the provincial level and beyond; they can also skate recreationally.Drop in at the registration evening and check us out. We are open to all ages and skill levels.
