The board<strong>of</strong> directors has their annual general meetingin March <strong>of</strong> every year. H.E.R.O was foundedby members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Humboldt</strong> Fire Department,<strong>Humboldt</strong> Ambulance Service and the localR.C.M.P Detachment. The public is encouraged toparticipate in our organization both as membersand on the board <strong>of</strong> directors.H.E.R.O can be contacted at the address below:H.E.R.OP.O. Box 3503<strong>Humboldt</strong>, SK S0K 2A0SPEED SKATINGSpeed Skating will once again be the main feature at the 2010 Winter Olympicsbeing held in British Columbia. Canada will be well represented with someSaskatchewan members.<strong>Humboldt</strong>’s own club has produced both North American and Canadianchampions. In fact we have had skaters at each <strong>of</strong> the Canadians for the past11 years. Last year two <strong>of</strong> our members, William Dutton and Nathan Bernhard,joined the National Development Team in Calgary. Also the club’s skaterscontinue to enjoy many successes in the local, provincial and inter-provincial meets.Over the last three years the club has coached a school program in co-operation with Speed Skate Canada to introducespeed skating to elementary students from St. Dominic and last year to St. Augustine.All speed skate rentals and skins (uniforms) are included in the $190 season fee (same price as lastyear). Ice times are Tuesday at 4:15 pm and Thursday (optional) mornings at the arena. Competitions are always onweekends. You can pick and choose which competition you want to enter throughout the season.Speed skating is both a team (relays) and an individual sport. Skaters can compete indoors and/or outdoors at locallevel, the provincial level and beyond; they can also skate recreationally.Drop in at the registration evening and check us out. We are open to all ages and skill levels.
