Continuing the Legacy!
by Dr. Ron Oakes
One of Central’s core values is
“Heritage: Continuing the legacy of
the Restoration Movement and CCCB.”
From the beginning in 1957, Central
has promoted solid, conservative
Biblical teaching—in breadth and
depth—as well as close adherence to
the essential tenets of the Restoration
Movement. For 54 years, Central has
championed that conservative voice
in our congregations by equipping
Biblically-prepared, globally-minded,
evangelistically-hearted servant leaders.
Institutional core values are like mooring
posts to which Central is closely tied.
They help Central stay grounded to
the essence of what New Testament
Christianity is all about. Even though
culture tends to produce tides of change
that draw institutions out to the depths
of the sea, Central remains securely tied
to our conservative heritage. We don’t
want to lose our way. We don’t want
to drift away by succumbing
to cultural trends and lose
our essential identity. We are
a Bible College! We equip
authentic Kingdom leaders for
the church at large.
No wonder we are designated
in our name as a college “…
of the Bible.” One of our
vision layers—to which our
strategic plan is tied--is to be
“Doctrinally Conservative.” This is
part of our intentional strategic plan to
maintain and continue the legacy into
the future. No wonder prospective
professors and adjuncts must provide
written answers to a two-part theological
questionnaire—before they are even
considered! No wonder there are high
expectations placed upon them.
Following a recent Foundations of
Christianity class discussion, Professor
Micheal Curtice engaged in a conversation
with one of his students on the subject
of baptism. After considering the
clear Biblical teaching on baptism, and
particularly that one cannot grammatically
separate “repent and be baptized”
in Acts 2:38, the student wanted to be
immersed. So at the conclusion of the
chapel service, we rolled the portable
baptistery into the Ferneau Center, and
baptized this young man into Christ in
front of the student body!
Baptisms happen throughout the
year—usually in local churches.
Sometimes on our mission trips—like
our basketball team’s spring break trip
to Jamaica—where four were added to
God’s Kingdom! Students, faculty, and
staff take our heritage seriously. Paul
writes, “For I am not ashamed of the
Gospel, for it is the power of God for
salvation…” (Romans 1:16). We are—
and will continue to be—a Restoration
Movement Bible college. You can be
certain that Central is “continuing the
legacy” of the past into the future.
Professor Green Resigns
Daniel Schantz Retires
It is with a heavy heart we share
with you the current situation
about Professor Regina Green.
Regina battled cancer in 2002,
and it has returned. Initially
the doctor thought the spot that
was discovered was treatable and
curable. Unfortunately, through
further diagnosis and tests, the
doctor recognized the cancer had spread into her hips
and bones. Though treatments will help with the pain,
the current situation is not curable. A portion of her
letter of resignation is quoted for you.
“It was an honor of being called to work at Central-
-and with MY teachers—and so many talented and
caring faculty and staff members. I enjoyed the
thrill of teaching and having the light come on for
students and students then becoming friends. All
of these and so many more are treasures I have
stored up in my heart. How I will miss this place!
“But now I have to go home. When I first learned I
had cancer I considered it, but when I learned I only
had one to two years to live, I knew I had to go and
live near my children, my grandchildren, and my
mother. So I am resigning as of the end of the contract
year. My heart weeps over this decision because I
have enjoyed every minute of my ministry here and at
TLCC [Timber Lake Christian Church]. I love Central
and will continue to support her in any way I can.
“I covet your prayers as I will ‘thank my God every
time I remember you’ and hold you up before the Father
pleading for all the good things he has to give you.”
Much love,
Regina
Regina has been serving as an Associate Professor of
Christian Counseling and Dean of Women since July
2005. “We love and respect Regina. We love her
ministry here and the significant contribution she has
made to the Kingdom, as well as to Central Christian
College of the Bible. She has touched all of us in one
way or another, and we thank God for her,” commented
President Oakes.
Daniel Schantz submitted a letter to the
Vice-President of Academics in early
March, expressing his intention to retire
at the end of the 2010-2011 school year.
Schantz has been teaching Christian
Education courses at Central since 1968.
He also enjoyed teaching Bible courses.
Proverbs and Ecclesiastes were his
favorites. Dan plans to continue writing
and supply preaching.
Schantz stated the following in his resignation letter, “I am
grateful for 43 years in which to influence young people for
Christ. I will miss the staff, the faculty, and especially the
students who have made this journey more interesting. I leave
with good will toward all, and I will continue to care about
Central for as long as she is true to her mission and message.”
Through the years, Mr. Schantz has taken on many different
responsibilities. He organized and ran the “Show-Me Shop,
Christian Education Convention,” updated bulletin boards
on campus, and traveled with college teams. He sponsored
the puppet team in the 70s and 80s and traveled with music
groups throughout the years. He also represented the College
at numerous churches.
Although he is known as Professor Schantz at Central, he is
more widely known for his writings. Schantz is a published
author of books for children, teaching techniques, and
numerous articles in magazines and newspapers. He is a
regular contributor to Daily Guideposts, The Lookout, and The
Christian Standard.
“We truly appreciate Dan’s ministry through the years. He
has touched and influenced many by his excellent and
creative teaching, speaking and writing. We are saddened
by this decision, but we want to wish him the very best in his
retirement. No doubt, he will continue to inspire people in the
future, just as he has inspired all of us in the past and present,”
commented President Oakes.
We thank God for Professor Schantz and for the contribution
he has made to the Kingdom of God!
Editor’s Note: Mr. Schantz had the amazing ability to make difficult
concepts and biblical principles easy to understand. A recent graduate
stated he referred back to his Schantz class notes more often than any
other class notes for his ministry. Mr. Schantz will be missed in the
classroom, in the hallway, and visiting in my office. Thanks, Mr. Schantz,
for influencing my life in such a positive way!
Have a special memory of Mrs. Green or Mr. Schantz Send a note to include in a memory book for Regina
or Dan to alumni@cccb.edu or mail to Alumni Office, 911 East Urbandale Drive, Moberly, Missouri 65270.
Deadline for memory books is June 3, 2011.
Professor Emeritus & the Hall of Honor
by Dr. Ron Oakes
4
In 2007 at the 50 th anniversary celebration, Central Christian
College of the Bible established and designated a new honorary
title, Professor Emeritus, for professors Lloyd Pelfrey and Gareth
Reese. This honorary title is awarded to a faculty member for
long and distinguished service at Central. It is given when years
of age plus years of full-time teaching experience equal 100. This
title, “Professor Emeritus” is permanently retained even after the
professor retires from full-time service to the College.
During the 2011 C3A Alumni Homecoming Banquet, Central
added three more distinguished professors who also have
demonstrated exemplary service and dedication to Central
Christian College of the Bible. We are pleased to bestow upon
Dr. Tarry A. Koutz, Daniel D. Schantz, and William P. Walton the
honorary title from this day (March 11, 2011) forward, Professor
Emeritus, as a symbol of our collective esteem and respect.
Professor Emeritus Dan Schantz
began teaching at Central in 1968,
and he is completing his 43 rd year
in the classroom as Professor of
Christian Education. Dan has a
heart for God and for students. He
has touched and influenced students
in the classroom with his excellent
and creative teaching, and he has
impacted believers throughout the
world with his unique speaking and
writing skills that paint amazinglydetailed
pictures in our minds of
what he is presenting. No wonder
people want the recent collection of
his Lookout articles called “A Slice of Heaven.” Certainly, he
has helped all of us to eagerly anticipate the glories of our eternal
home with Christ.
Professor Emeritus Dr. Tarry Koutz began teaching in 1971 and
he is completing his 40 th year as professor of music and worship.
Through the years Dr. Koutz has encouraged and inspired
many believers with his excellent choirs, the highly disciplined
English bell choirs, the traditional Living Christmas tree, and the
various musical dramas. His relentless pursuit of excellence, his
meticulous care in stage presentation, and his stellar musical and
dramatic performances have made lasting impressions. They
will always be remembered as a significant element of Central’s
historical heritage.
Professor Emeritus Bill Walton began teaching at Central in 1980
and for 25 years served as VP of Student Life while teaching fulltime.
He is completing 31 years in the classroom this spring. Bill
has always been a staunch advocate for the students, and this past
fall the new Student Center was named in his honor—and no one
was more excited or pleased with that facility than Bill. For years
he had dreamed and sought to provide improved services and
facilities for students. That facility, along with the designation,
Professor Emeritus, will tell of his heart for college students for
years to come.
As a further expression of our esteem and recognition, Central
Christian College of the Bible established on March 11, 2011, the
east hallway of the Ferneau Center and designated it hereafter as
the Professor Emeritus Hall of Honor!
This Hall of Honor will feature individually designated stations
or exhibits about each Professor Emeritus. There will be a
poster-sized frame with a commissioned painting in the middle,
surrounded by a collage of photos from their careers here at
Central. Historical information will be shown including classes
taught, other responsibilities they have held, and the story of how
they came to Central.
We believe this Hall of Honor will
provide a perpetual, historical legacy
that we must never forget. These
professors have shaped and molded
Central into the strong conservative
Restoration movement Bible college
that it is today, and from which,
Central will never depart. Those
moved to give to this special project
are encouraged to do so by indicating
“Hall of Honor” with their gifts.
Once this Professor Emeritus Hall
of Honor is completed, students,
guests, professors, staff and constituents will be able to stroll
down this historical hallway. They will be able to clearly see the
significant Kingdom contribution of these great servants and the
impact they have had on Central.
They will be inspired as they read about their exemplary service
and dedication to Central Christian College of the Bible. They
will be encouraged to emulate these professors who freely, and
sacrificially, gave of themselves to further the cause of Christ,
and to send His message around the world.
Like a compass that always points due north, showing the
direction that one needs to take, the Professor Emeritus Hall of
Honor will continue to point Central Christian College of the
Bible into the future in the direction that continues the legacy
toward Central’s mission of recruiting and training leadership for
the church at large, according to the New Testament teaching.
In this way, their legacy will always be honored and remembered.
Central’s past will continue to shape Central’s future in perpetuity.

Saints Day of Service
Central Christian College of the Bible sponsored the Saints Day of Service for students,
faculty and staff on Thursday, February 10. Over two-thirds of the student body and
the majority of the faculty and staff played a part in the day focused on serving others.
This day of service was a part of the Student Revival Week held on campus at that
time.
The purpose of the Saints Day of Service was to provide Central’s students and staff an
opportunity to give, serve, and care. The activities were carried out in conjunction with
the Food Pantry Ministry of Timber Lake Christian Church. During the Saints Day of
Service there was a free store, hot meal, and personal conversation and follow-up with
each food pantry recipient.
This day was meant to benefit the community as those in need were helped with items
they have difficulty being able to afford. Conducting this ministry in a local church
context where people are already networked to provide continued follow-up was a
key to making this ministry a success. The Central students became more aware of the
needs of those living in this community and participated in a model for how they might
organize such an event in their future ministries.
A great deal of planning went into the Saints Day of Service. It began with breakfast
at 7:15 and concluded with clean-up late into the evening. The students divided into
teams to achieve the goals presented by the planning committee. Each team consisted
of a student leader, faculty member, and at least four student members. In the morning,
teams worked at collecting clothing, toiletries, school supplies, books, money, nonperishable
food, and gifts. The collected items were sorted in classrooms and then
transported to Timber Lake Christian. The clothing, toiletries, school supplies, books
and gifts were set up in a free store.
The afternoon was also busy, with shopping for additional items needed for the food
pantry and store, cooking a turkey dinner for the free evening meal under the direction
of Bret Clancy, Pioneer Food Service Director at CCCB, and setting up for the store
and banquet. The free store was open from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
In the evening a team of students, faculty and staff served the food to the guests and
other students. Another team was in charge of cleaning the kitchen and gym while
others visited and prayed with guests of the food pantry and free store.
The A-Team Gives a Shout-Out
by Rocky Christensen
This has been a great year in Admissions. Although our team is new, we have worked hard and had a great year serving
the Lord. The best part of our job is working with students who have a passion for ministry. We realize that the students’
passion and fire have been fueled through the labor and sacrifice freely offered by so many dedicated men and women
in the local churches. It is a continued partnership that we seek to have with local churches to continue the ministry
that they have started. We look forward to partnering with the ministries that you are currently involved in any chance
we get.
The first step with any relationship is getting to know someone, so let’s start with our names and the areas of the globe
that we serve, so that we can stay in contact.
“Hi, my name is Bethany Barkey. I like clocks, maps, and suitcases because I enjoy
spending time with loved ones, going to new places, and being ready for whatever God may have
in store! I look forward to spending the rest of my life with Adam Barkey communicating to all
nations Christ’s hope and the glory of God. I work with churches and students in northwestern
Missouri, Alaska, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon,
South Dakota, Washington, and Wyoming.”
“Hey there! My name is Andy Kovar. I seriously enjoy In-N-Out Burgers and
Fender Guitars. I love my bride, I love my kiddos, and I live to worship my King. Catch
me in southern Missouri, Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Hawaii,
Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah.”
“Howdy! My name is Rocky Christensen. My favorite sentences start with Aristotle,
Bugatti Veyron, Bioethics, or Jesus. My favorite movie quote is from the 3 Ninjas: “Rocky Loves
Emily.” Let’s hang out in northeastern Missouri, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia,
Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New
Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont,
Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.”
“Hi, my name is Tessa Rexrode. I love hanging out with my family, reading, good
coffee, and traveling. I’ve been known to throw down an entire box of Jujyfruits between
stops on the road. When you call the Admissions Department you’ll most likely hear my
voice answering the phone. Among other things, I make sure that your visit to Central is
a 5-star experience. One of the best ways to get to know Central is to take a campus tour.
Leave all the arrangements and accommodations to me. You’ll be glad you came. Most
can’t wait to return as students!”
Remember that A-Team members and travel teams will be journeying all across the country this summer to churches,
The Walton Student was opened to the students on October 31, and continues to remain
the hub for the students. The Walton Student Center houses a coffee house, eating/sitting
area, stage area, pool tables, a ping pong table, an exercise room, a conference room, and
several television viewing areas. The building was constructed and furnished without
incurring any debt. Dr. Oakes and the CCCB staff hosted an open house for the Chamber
on December 3 and for their donors and friends on December 4.

Honorary Alumni
Honorary Alumni Award
The Honorary Alumni Award is presented to
current and former Central employees who
have shown dedicated service to the college
and furthering its mission. The 2011 Honorary
Alumni Award was presented to Mark Dunham
during the Alumni Banquet on March 11, 2011.
Mark Dunham has been associated with Central
for many years. Mark and Rhonda (Pelfrey)
moved from Oklahoma to Moberly in 1983
so Rhonda could serve as the Dorm Mom in
Spurling Hall. Even before Mark became an
employee, he would lock up the main building
each night. It wasn’t his responsibility, but
Mark was concerned about security, and took
it upon himself.
In November, 1990, Pop Payne gave his
resignation, and Mark was employed as the
Head of Maintenance (now Physical Plant
Manager). He oversees the grounds and
buildings on campus, and does a wonderful
job. This winter has been rough on him and
his crew with all the snow removal, but Mark
rarely complains about all the work or the
equipment he is sometimes forced to use.
Mark gets asked to do a variety of jobs.
Although time does not allow for it now, Mark
used to travel with the ball teams and Chorale
(with his big bag of red Twizzlers he brought
to share). He misses those down times with
the students. He also runs the sound system at
many on-campus events.
Mark and Rhonda have two children: Cassie,
who is in Abilene, Texas, and Jonathan, a
junior at Central.
Thank you, Mark, for your many years of
dedicated service!
At right: Stephen Walton, ’10; Mitchell Seaton,
’05; Rebecca (Dean, ’04) Seaton, and Alisa
(Amundson, ’06)Walton all meadaled in the Blaze
the Trail 5K held on Saturday, March 12, during
the alumni homecoming.
Dedicated Service Award
The Dedicated Service Award is given to a
CCCB alum who has worked tirelessly, often
behind the scenes, to serve God in exceptional
ways. This year’s recipient is Deana Dorcé.
Deana (Dee) Dorcé is a graduate with the
class of 1991. She went to Haiti just after
graduating in May and moved there January
7, 1993. When she went originally, she was
working with the Berea Children’s Home,
and it was there she met her husband, Wilckly.
Dee was with Berea for 10 years.
Dee and Wilckly are now in Carries, Haiti.
They have been there 10 years. Their mission
helps 15 churches. A school, a church, and a
medical clinic are part of their ministry.
Salonique Adolphe, the banquet speaker and
fellow Haitian worker, gave the audience a
little more background on Dee’s ministry in
Haiti. “Dee does not work in a place where
even Haitians would want to work. It takes
somebody made especially by God to do that,
and here is Dee Dorcé. She and her husband
went to Carries and turned it into a godly
place. This last year has not been easy for
them.”
Dee and Wilckly have three children. Thank
you, Dee, for your example of sacrifice and
dedication to the Kingdom.
Outstanding Alumni Award
The Outstanding Alumni Award is an award
given to an alumnus who has dedicated his/
her life to Christian service and made a
lasting impression on the Kingdom.
Earl Ferguson earned a Bachelor of Arts in
Bible from Central Christian College of the
Bible in 1962. He continued his education
at Lincoln Christian Seminary (now Lincoln
Christian University) and Govenor’s State
University. In addition he earned a Doctorate
of Ministry degree from McCormick
Theologcial Seminary.
Earl’s first ministry was in Farber, MO. He
received a call from the Chicago District
Evangelizing Association (now Ignite) to
start a church in suburban Chicago. He
founded and served The Deer Creek Christian
Church for 37 years, leading it through 4
building programs, the development of a
Christian School (K-8) and to a membership
of 1500 before moving to Carillon, a gated
community of 3700 for those who are 55+.
Here he preaches each Sunday to 150 or more
seniors in their clubhouse.
Earl is married to Patricia (Robison) and
they have three children: David, Jonathan,
and Deborah. He enjoys working on the staff
of Community Christian Church with his
two sons, spending time with his 5 grandchildren,
golfing, fishing and just “hanging
out” with Pat.
Chancellor Lloyd Pelfrey presented the award
to Earl. “Earl, you have been an inspiration
to so many. You and Pat were the first
two students in the history of Central who
received all your undergraduate work here at
Central as you received your baccalaureate
degrees. It is a blessing to have you as a
friend, as a brother in Christ.”
Thank you, Earl, for your tireless and many
years of service. We hope you have many
more years of serving the King!
Real
Dear Alumni & friends,
Central Christian College of the Bible
has always had a special place in my
heart. Years ago I could be found on
campus as an infant, toddler and child.
Later, I was on campus as a student.
Ever since graduation I have visited
the campus as often as possible as an
alumnus. CCCB has been a part of my life as long as I’ve
had life!
Because Central has meant so much to me over the years, it
has been a privilege and honor to serve as the first president
of the “Central Alumni Advisory Association”, the C3A. I
believe that our alumni organization is off to a great start and
I am confident that under the leadership of Bill Shewmaker
much more will be done in the future.
I am proud to be numbered among the alumni of Central
Christian College of the Bible! I am thankful for the
education I received there. I am thankful for the friendships
forged there. I am thankful that CCCB has always been
and remains a conservative, Restoration Bible College who
unashamedly teaches the truth and remains faithful to her
mission.
Central Christian College of the Bible has been a part of my
life for many years. I thank you for allowing me, for the past
three years, to “give back” by serving as C3A president. I
encourage you to give Bill your support and be an active
C3A member. Above that, I encourage you to support CCCB
through your prayers and financial gifts.
In Christ,
Bob Leinbaugh
C3A President
“Talking” With Bill
Greetings in the name of Jesus the
Christ,
I want to thank you for taking time to
read our current alumni news. I also want
to thank you for the personal service
you give to God, your families, your
congregations and your communities.
I want to challenge you also to consider service to your
Alma Mater, Central Christian College of the Bible.
We have made considerable progress as an Alumni
Association over the past three years under the able
leadership of my classmate, my friend, and my brother in
Christ, Bob Leinbaugh. Bob wasn’t even at the meeting
when we “elected” him to be the President of this new
endeavor to reunite the alumni of CCCB. Because of his
leadership and dedication, my two years of service as your
President should prove to be so much easier.
This year the C3A (Central Alumni Advisory Association)
helped complete (financially) some much needed projects
on the college:
• Portable a/c units in the lobbies of the dormitories
• Travel coffee mugs to “MUG” the freshmen
• Care package preparations and delivery
We have plans for future projects where your service can
prove helpful. We want you to be a part of a fantastic
Alumni Association that will only get stronger by your
participation. Come back home and visit once in a while,
Central misses you.
We’ll “talk” more in future newsletters.
Bill Shewmaker
C3A President
2011-2013

Japan Missionary Update
Bill and Mary Jo
Ruck were located in
Sendai, Japan, right at
the epicienter of the
earthquake. Fortunately
they were located on a
hill that overlooks the
city, and they were not affected by the tsumani.
Drew and Megumi Glosson live in Nagano,
Japan (mountaineous area), two hours by train
from the earthquake epicenter that struck Japan
on March 11. The Rucks were scheduled to
return to the states for a short visit right after
the earthquake, and delayed their trip until mid-
April.
Below are some excerpts.
The Glossons and the
Rucks are good at updating
their blogs (www.
japanmissionproject.com).
Please visit their blogs
to learn more about what
they have experienced
since the earthquake.
Drew stated
“Just had a meeting with alot of church leaders
here in Sendai. It’s not very often that churches
work together in Japan. Amazing to see.”
(March 18)
“This is my first experience as leader in the
situation. Although, I’m not on the front lines
distributing supplies to churches and helping to
clean up the mess, I’m making phone calls and
gathering info. As I continue to play my part in
the background, and my team continues to serve
on the front lines, we are praying that Christ
would be first and foremost in all that we do
and that the people we are helping would know
that we are merely his servants working to
show them the great love that he has for them.”
(March 27)
Mary Jo
We’re not the worst hit. The coastal areas, the
places hit by the tsunamis, are the worst off.
We’re inland far enough that it never reached us
or even really got close to us. But we’ve been
to those places that are no more. It blows our
minds. We didn’t even know how bad it was
until much later, because all we could see was
the area around us.
And yet…I got a letter in my mail box today.
We have electricity. We have food, we have
drinking water. We have friends and help. I’ve
never seen nor talked to my neighbors more in
the two years we’ve been here (my Japanese
was a part of that problem). People are joining
together, banding together to encourage each
other and to help each other.
God is good. He is in control. His mercy endures
forever. May the hearts of the Japanese people
be ready to hear the gospel and to listen, to give
their lives over to a creator and a savior who
cares for them. Just yesterday we had a new
person come to church – a young woman who
lives nearby. She’s seeking. It’s amazing. God
is working in the little things.” (March 14)
