You may have noticed that we have a new look- the Sketches header
has changed. We'll feature a different HuntonBrady building within the
header each issue. Our team of design professionals is constantly
adapting to what's new and modern- from technology like BIM
software (read more about it below) to green construction materials to
the graphic layout of our marketing materials. Timeless, modern
design is a HuntonBrady trademark.
Here's a few shots of friends and employees at our annual Open
House in September. This year was special because we
celebrated being named Orlando AIA's Firm of the Year. Guests
had fun getting to know our employees with a fun facts behind the
faces scavenger hunt. Yes, we're the architecture firm of the year, but
did you know we also have a former professional clam digger on

• New Father Lopez Catholic High School Opens in Daytona
Beach
Two years ago we lined up over 220 cement
trucks for the largest cement pour in the state of
Florida to lay the foundation for Florida Hospital
Orlando's new 15-story Patient Tower. Today,
I'm proud to say the project is complete, and the
doors are just opening on the tallest hospital in
Florida.
A state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization lab and
modern Emergency Department are signatures
of the new building, as well as over 440 patient
beds and rooms with floor-to-ceiling window
views of Lake Estelle, Loch Haven Park or the
Orlando skyline. The modern ED will
accommodate over 90,000 annual visits. The
Cardiovascular Institute covers two floors and is
devoted to patient services as well as research
studies.

semester were all we needed to complete the new Father Lopez
Catholic High School in Daytona Beach.
This modern campus, located on 40 acres on LPGA Boulevard, touts
the latest in classroom technology and is designed to promote a
collegial atmosphere among faculty and students with flexible
classroom space and multiple common areas. A centerpiece of the
campus is the chapel, modeled after Our Lady de la Leche in St.
Augustine. The chapel is located at the center of campus to signify
the central position that Christ serves in the students' lives.

• First Look at Healthfirst Viera Hospital In Color
Here's a digital rendering of the new Healthfirst Viera Hospital which
just broke ground and will open Spring 2011. The project is guided
by design drivers to ensure we meet and exceed expectations of all
users. We designed the building to maximize operational efficiency,
comfortably integrate the family as part of a patient's care, and utilize
the latest technology to ensure a digitally "smart" hospital.

• The Sarasota House Modular Prototype Recognized in
Competition

Project Architect Tom Wannen placed third in the F lorida
Foundation For Architecture Florida Cottage Design award
competition. The competition focused on sustainable, affordable
modular housing that could be deployed in emergency situations.
Tom's winning design submission, The Sarasota House, is a
contemporary interpretation of the principles used by Paul Rudolph,
Ralph Twitchell and others from The Sarasota School of
Architecture.
• Commercial Construction Update: HB in Doral
We've completed construction on SouthPark 1400 in Doral, a class A
office building in the SouthPark Center for Flagler Development Co.
The 115,000 sf, three-story office building showcases HuntonBrady's
expertise in tilt-wall panel construction, a technique in which large
concrete walls are poured onsite instead of offsite, saving both time
and money.
• Emeril's Got "BAM" We've Got "BIM"

AutoDesk Revit Award Lauds UF Project
Congratulations to Walter P. Moore on receiving the Autodesk Revit
BIM Experience Award. The award celebrates building industry
professionals and educators around the world who are helping to
drive transformation of the building industry through building
information modeling. In an interview with Building Design and
Construction magazine, Jim Jacobi, CIO and Principal of WPM,
explains how his team works closely with HuntonBrady Architects
and has utilized BIM (that's building information modeling) to design
the model and coordinate architectural and structural elements on
our University of Florida Biomedical Sciences building in Gainesville.
It's a complicated and exciting project that is pushing the boundaries
of how we share project information across different disciplines. "BIM
is reshaping and streamlining many of our projects," said Andy
Sexton, Principal. "We expect BIM software to be standard in the
industry soon, and will replace traditional CAD tools in the same way
CAD tools replaced drafting tables."
• Maso Named to Banner Center for Digital Media Advisory
Council

Maurizio Maso, AIA, was appointed by Workforce Florida Inc. to the
Industry Advisory Council IAC) for the statewide Em ploy Florida
Banner Center for Digital Media. The Banner Center, located at the
new Seminole Community College Heathrow Tech Building we
designed, will provide up-to-date training for high-tech, high-skill jobs
in the digital industry media industry which is rapidly expanding in
Florida.The center has established relationships with Electronic Arts
- Tiburon, the National Center for Simulation, Florida High Tech
Corridor, and more.
• Maximizing Spaces in Modern Places

Buddy Walk
This fall found our folks supporting the 2008 Buddy Walk, which
benefits the Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida.
HuntonBrady walkers were Cruisin' for Kaitlyn, the 1-year-old
daughter of Associate Tommy Hagood (pictured) and his wife, Erin.
Kaitlyn and big sister Allison led us around Lake Eola in their red
wagon and raised over $2900 for DSACF. Way to go!
Heart Walk
The HuntonBrady Architects HeartWalk Start! Team 2008 met at
Loch Haven Park this September to raise funds for the Central
Florida chapter of the American Heart Association.

Light the Night Walk
We also supported the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Central
Florida at their Light the Night Walk around Lake Eola one starry
evening this fall.
