What's a Punch List?In an article I wrote for Orlando CEO magazine this month, I detailed thefive tenets that have led to our firm's longevity:Sketches is here to clear up another murkyindustry term: the punch list. A punch list isa written task record or to-do list of alloutstanding or incomplete items that are owedto the project under a contract agreement. Anarchitect or interior designer usually compiles apunch list when the project is deemedsubstantially complete.According to Wikipedia.com, the term has itsorigins in the (pre-computer) process ofpunching a hole in the margin of a documentnext to an item on a list to indicate that thework was complete for that task.1. We clearly define the HuntonBrady look2. We grow along with Central Florida3. We preserve and promote our company culture4. We respond to a crisis with communication5. We don't chase projects; we develop relationships with our clientsHuntonBrady Architects is a clever balance of tradition and technology. And with friends of the firm like you, we plan on keeping it that way foranother 60 years.- Chuck Cole, AIA, ACHA, President & Managing PrincipalOur punch lists require sign-off fromsubcontractors, the general contractor, and thearchitectural project manager to ensure thatno stone is left unturned.Quick Links...• Our Website• Our Principals & Associates• Our Projects• Our Design Awards• Seminole Community College Heathrow TechDebuts!Classes started thisFall at the brandnew SeminoleCommunityCollege (SCC)HeathrowTechnologyCenter, a new hubfor technologyworkforcedevelopment andeconomicdevelopmentthroughout CentralFlorida. approached us with the challenge of renovating the sixth floor of theirflagship hospital in Orlando to house a new, 16-bed pediatricsprogressive care unit (PCU) and welcome lobby for their FloridaChildren's Hospital division. Our interior designers gave the space a modern spin on nature througha playfully designed "camp" theme, carried out in bright hues andenhanced by fine art photography, signage, patterns, colors andmaterial selections. Patient rooms welcome children by mimickingcabins with front doors, mailboxes, and a lantern at the entries. Weoptimized functionality whenever possible. Patients and visitors areguided through the unit by a simulated boardwalk floor. The centralizednurses' station promotes operational efficiency under the guise of a treehouse. Playful touches like this were carefully considered to addan element of fun to an often times serious place. The playroom is a rich, sensory environment designed to delight andde-stress patients. The center of attention is a technologically advancedfiber optic ceiling that simulates twinkling and shooting stars against amidnight blue background.• Treasured Holiday Poster Tradition ContinuesLast year's poster, seen here, depicted Piazza Navona in Rome.Maurizio Maso continues our holiday poster tradition this season with astill-top-secret depiction of The Grand Place in Brussels, Belgium, one of the great market squares of Europe and a United NationsEducational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) WorldHeritage Site. Clyde Brady, FAIA, began drawing the HuntonBradyholiday poster in 1980 as a way to celebrate the holidays and share ourfirm's passion for architecture with the community. The tradition is now27 years old and going strong.
