4.6 Economy<br />
and Employment<br />
Relative to other countries with economies of similar size in the<br />
region, <strong>Antigua</strong> and <strong>Barbuda</strong> has performed very well over the past<br />
forty (40) years during which its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rose<br />
from $US0.16 B in 1969 to $US1.04 B in 2009 (Figure 4.10). This<br />
status is further borne<br />
out by its ranking of 47 th on the UNDP’s<br />
Human<br />
Development Index (2009), which is second only to<br />
Barbados in the Caribbean, and is fourth place (after Aruba, The<br />
Bahamas and Barbados) in GDP per capita over at least the past 15<br />
