Each of the eight Orca vessels was fitted with n<strong>in</strong>e <strong>OutBack</strong> <strong>Power</strong> sealed FX <strong>in</strong>verter/<br />

chargers and a MATE3 controller. Specially designed to survive <strong>in</strong> environments that<br />

would destroy other <strong>in</strong>verter/chargers, FX <strong>in</strong>verters have a die-cast alum<strong>in</strong>um chassis with<br />

a powder-coated f<strong>in</strong>ish to prevent corrosion and gaskets and o-r<strong>in</strong>g seals on seams and<br />

open<strong>in</strong>gs to keep seawater out. The compact <strong>OutBack</strong> <strong>Power</strong> <strong>in</strong>verter/chargers are used<br />

as standalone battery chargers <strong>in</strong> Orca eng<strong>in</strong>e rooms for onboard diesel generators. The<br />

<strong>in</strong>verters power critical 120V electrical components that perform tasks such as steer<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

navigation and fire pump haul<strong>in</strong>g. The MATE3 controller makes ma<strong>in</strong>tenance easy by<br />

provid<strong>in</strong>g compact displays of the complete power system and allow<strong>in</strong>g remote system<br />

configuration. After see<strong>in</strong>g the performance of the FX series <strong>in</strong>verter/chargers <strong>in</strong> action<br />

onboard the Orca boats, Emery Electric began us<strong>in</strong>g <strong>OutBack</strong> products to replace the<br />

charg<strong>in</strong>g systems and <strong>in</strong>verters on many of the Navy’s support vessels, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g fireboats,<br />

tugboats and barges.<br />
