The Provincial Chapter
of the Province of
Christ the King
(REG), Mexico, took place
from June 2 to 5, 2008, in

PROVINCIAL CHAPTER REG PROVINCE,
MÉXICO
Cuernavaca, Morelos,
México. Present was the
Superior General, Fr.
Ottaviano D’Egidio, as well
as Fr. Clemente Barrón,
General Consultor, and Fr.
Donald Webber, CRUC
Provincial Superior and Fr.
Carlos San Martín, representing
the FAM Province of
Spain. Also taking part were
Mother Guadalupe Aguilera
CFP, the Superior General of
the Daughters of the Passion,
Sr. Paula María Lucatero,
CFP, Provincial of the
Sisters’ Northern Province,
and Mrs. Sara Elena Rios,
General Consultor of the Secular Institute of the
Missionaries of the Passion. There were 31 religious
of the Province present, and 19 Laity, members of the
Passionist Family.
Fr. Clemente Barrón, General Consultor, made
the Canonical Visitation, meeting with all the religious
individually as well as all the communities.
He also met with three groups of laity, members of
the Passionist Family. In his report he stated that
Mexico is a predominantly Catholic country composed
of approximately 8 million inhabitants and is
dealing with many complex political and social
issues. The Passionists have been present in
Mexico from the USA since 1860 and despite many
unsuccessful initial attempts to make a foundation,
the religious of the CORI Province of Spain were
able to establish the first Province. Currently the
REG Province is composed of 40 religious and
seven communities. The religious are involved in a
different ministries including formation, preaching,

retreat and parochial ministry and individual
ministries.
In his opening remarks, Fr. Ottaviano stated that,
“Mexico is historically and culturally a bridge
between North and South America…Work still needs
to be done to expand the experience of collaboration
with the two Provinces of the USA in the area of pastoral
opportunities that are present there due to the
large Hispanic presence in that country. This would
provide for an appropriate spiritual and cultural
response. This is a missionary endeavor which,
despite initial difficulties, should not be delayed nor
abandoned. Discernment is needed so that it continues
to be a part of the process of Restructuring in the
Congregation. The Province is conscious that it has
to address the challenges at hand and make decisions
about forms of presence, houses, ministries, formation
and finances…An important decision in the
Province was that of accepting a mission in the state
of Chiapas. In addition to an area for evangeliza-
