Divisional Outcomes<br />

The Offender <strong>Services</strong> Division provides rehabilitative services incorporating education, program delivery, health<br />

services, pr<strong>of</strong>essional development, recruitment, training, performance management, sentence management and<br />

the provision <strong>of</strong> support and counselling for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.<br />

Directorate Outputs<br />

Assessment, Counselling & Support leads the coordinated research, development and delivery <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>fender<br />

programs, education and services that seek the ability for clients to adapt, cope and exhibit pro-social behaviour<br />

within a custodial environment and in the community.<br />

Role <strong>of</strong> the Position<br />

This position manages the Forensic Consultant and Dangerous Sex Offender Psychology Teams. The position<br />

provides strategic leadership, management, pr<strong>of</strong>essional guidance and support to the teams, enabling them to<br />

optimise and develop individual and team performance outcomes.<br />

This position develops and manages the business planning for the Forensic Consultant Team and the Dangerous<br />

Sex Offender Psychology Team.<br />

Responsibilities <strong>of</strong> this Position<br />

LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT<br />

• Contributes to the ongoing development <strong>of</strong> Directorate planning and implements agreed strategies in<br />

accordance with the area <strong>of</strong> responsibility.<br />

• Contributes to and implements strategies to achieve a positive and innovative organisational culture.<br />

• Supervises and manages the pr<strong>of</strong>essional development <strong>of</strong> staff within the Forensic Consultant Team (FCT)<br />

and Dangerous Sex Offender (DSO) Psychology Team.<br />

• Manages the delivery <strong>of</strong> psychological assessments and interventions <strong>of</strong> the FCT and DSO Psychology Team,<br />

ensuring outputs meet departmental requirements.<br />

RESOURCE MANAGEMENT<br />

• Undertakes responsibility for the FCT and DSO Psychology Team involving the operation, organisation,<br />

development, human resources, financial matters, contract management and coordination <strong>of</strong> the branch.<br />

PLANNING<br />

• Contributes to the development <strong>of</strong> strategic and business plans for the Directorate, including the development<br />

<strong>of</strong> a FCT and DSO Psychology Team business plan and strategies that link to the <strong>Department</strong>’s strategic<br />

objectives.<br />

CONSULTATION AND ADVICE<br />

• Consults with, and provides specialist psychological advice to corporate, prison and community based<br />

personnel and external stakeholders regarding <strong>of</strong>fending behaviour, psychology service and practice.<br />

• Contributes to the development <strong>of</strong> policy standards and guidelines regarding the provision <strong>of</strong> psychological<br />

services to <strong>of</strong>fenders.<br />

• Represents the <strong>Department</strong> on matters related to psychological services and practices.<br />

SERVICE DELIVERY<br />

• Provides direct psychological services to complex clients as required.<br />

• Liaises with various agencies and positions to ensure that the assessments and intervention <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>fenders<br />

undertaken meet statutory requirements.<br />

• Coordinates the purchase <strong>of</strong> contracted psychological reports for Courts, Boards and other relevant bodies.<br />

• Provides an expert assessment and consultation service for the <strong>Department</strong>’s most complex and demanding<br />

prisoners.<br />

MAINTENANCE AND APPLICATION OF CLINICAL KNOWLEDGE<br />

• Maintains contemporary knowledge <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional literature relating to psychological assessment and<br />

intervention, and risk management.<br />

• Demonstrates and manages ethical behaviour in accordance with relevant standards, values and policies.<br />

2. Knowledge and Experience <strong>of</strong> Risk Assessment and<br />

Interventions With Long Term and High Risk/ High<br />

Needs Offenders<br />

Advanced knowledge <strong>of</strong> forensic risk assessment theory,<br />

techniques and associated literature, psychological<br />

measurement, and the theory and practice <strong>of</strong> forensic<br />

psychological assessment.<br />

Writes high level complex psychological assessment reports.<br />

Extensive knowledge <strong>of</strong> the provision <strong>of</strong> treatment interventions<br />

and risk management strategies with <strong>of</strong>fenders.<br />

Experience with contemporary risk assessment practices and<br />

interventions with <strong>of</strong>fenders.<br />

Leads best practice assessment and interventions for<br />

<strong>of</strong>fenders.<br />

Demonstrated practice <strong>of</strong> forensic psychology at a senior level<br />

5. Qualifications Masters level qualification in Forensic/Clinical/Counselling<br />

Psychology and eligibility for registration with the<br />

practice in Forensic, Clinical, or Counselling Psychology<br />
