Role Of This Position<br />
The role <strong>of</strong> the Assistant Internal Investigator is, under the supervision <strong>of</strong> the Senior Investigator and with<br />
overall direction from the Manager Internal Investigations, to assist with inquires into any matter, incident or<br />
occurrence concerning the <strong>Department</strong>.<br />

Responsibilities Of This Position<br />
The primary responsibility <strong>of</strong> the position is to assist with inquires into any matter, incident or<br />
occurrence concerning the <strong>Department</strong>. As such, the position:<br />
1. Assists with the preparation for, and conduct <strong>of</strong>, investigations by:<br />
• assisting with the development and maintenance <strong>of</strong> data bases;<br />
• undertaking history checking and other desk top investigation activities;<br />
• participating in interviews as the corroboration <strong>of</strong>ficer and witness;<br />
• collecting and collating information and conducting research on behalf <strong>of</strong> the Investigators; and<br />
• providing assistance in terms <strong>of</strong> analysis <strong>of</strong> the issues under investigation<br />
2. Conducts less complex and minor internal investigations as directed.<br />
In undertaking these responsibilities, and in addition to the above activities, the position:<br />
3. Provides general administrative assistance to investigators and contributes to the Unit’s<br />
achievements by:<br />
• participating constructively and positively within workplace teams to achieve tasks;<br />
• co-operating as appropriate with staff <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Department</strong> to achieve successful resolution <strong>of</strong> issues<br />
under investigation; and<br />
• contributing to, and assisting with the implementation <strong>of</strong>, strategies to achieve a positive and<br />
innovative organisational culture.<br />
4. Produces reports on minor matters under investigations and/or assists with the production <strong>of</strong><br />
reports in a timely manner.<br />
5. Assists with the provision <strong>of</strong> investigative advice and assistance to key stakeholders within the<br />
<strong>Department</strong> and in other agencies.<br />
6. Assists with the review and development <strong>of</strong> policy and procedures relating to investigations.<br />
7. Conducts research, collect and collate information on behalf <strong>of</strong> investigators.<br />
In undertaking this role, the Assistant Internal Investigator is expected to:<br />

• Prisons Act 1981 and Public Sector Management Act rules, instructions and procedures;<br />
• Contemporary practices and principles that apply to investigative processes;<br />
• Rules <strong>of</strong> Natural Justice and Procedural Fairness; and<br />
• Operating environment <strong>of</strong> Community and Juvenile Justice <strong>Services</strong> and Adult Custodial <strong>Services</strong> Divisions.<br />
