This intensive two-day hands-on symposium is
intended for dentists with an interest in or current
involvement in the dental sleep medicine field
treating obstructive sleep apnea with the use of
oral appliances. Lectures and hands-on workshops
will provide participants with the most up-to-date
information in the field of dental sleep medicine,
including new clinical protocols and innovations
in clinical techniques to achieve more successful
treatment outcomes and management of side effects
for patients through the use of oral appliances in the
therapy of obstructive sleep apnea. The symposium
will emphasize the management of TMD symptoms
developed with the use of sleep oral appliances.
Clinical cases will explore unique techniques used
at our Center for the OSA TMD patient. A hands-on
workshop will include the fitting and adjustments of
oral devices for the management of TMD and bite
symptoms, and include clinical examination, bite
registration techniques, fitting and adjustments of
oral devices to manage bite and TMD symptoms.
Learning objectives:
Upon completion of the symposium, participants
will be able to:
• Understand the clinical assessment of sleep studies
• Evaluate the head, face, neck, and airway as they
relate to sleep-disordered breathing
• Understand the management of complex sleep
cases involving TMJ symptoms
• Understand the three-dimensional relationships
that exist in dental occlusion acting as risk indicators
for TMD and sleep disorders
• Understand the approach for complex TMD and
sleep-disordered patients using unique combinations
of oral appliances
Participants are required to bring a lower appliance
made on a vacuum-press or similar machine using
a thickness of 1.5mm
